True — but with coaches it’s not about hurt feelings as much as the message that constant coach-bashing sends to recruits and their families who are in various stages of decision-making. It also undermines confidence for our current players if all they’re hearing is negativity about their team and coaches from their fan base. It does far more harm to our team than any good, especially in year 1 with a new staff. Hey, I was hollering right along with everybody else for Muschamp and Mac to be let go. But not in year 1 or 2.
It’s amazing we brought in 18 four star players and didn’t rank in the top 10. It’s difficult to recruit and difficult to win. We play five teams this year who won 10 or more games last year - Utah, Tennessee, Georgia, LSU, and FSU.
You might be very surprised then to know more than what you quoted (,0001%) do read GC and actually do go 4 pages in...or more if the thread goes longer..
I mean, I get it. Im not privy to inside ball information. Im an outsider looking in. In my world, CBN can have all the time he wants if things are running competently...but this is also a biz with sky high expectations...a 5 year turnaround timetable for some around here would call for a double firing of everyone. Strickland is wedded to CBN decision and CDM decision. It just seems like if there is no improvement by the end of 2024 season...a triple 6-6 season again or worse...I cant possibly see him surviving that.
Exactly. If we are 6-6 at the end of 25, I’ll buy as many pitchforks as we need to drive them out of Gainesville. WhT I don’t want to be is one of those idiots in talks crappy that wanted Norvell fired before last season.
Whew. I made it to the end. Boy, there were a bunch of long-winded post. Good news is they are trending shorter.
Agree on all points. Interesting blurb on the upcoming season from TOS: Predicting what happens: If the Gators fail to split non-conference showdowns with Utah and Florida State this season, Billy Napier fails to reach bowl eligibility. Florida's in a great spot recruiting for 2024, but on-field production is going to matter this fall and the schedule appears to be treacherous. At worst, going 1-1 against comparative teams Kentucky and South Carolina is necessary too, but it may not happen.
Napier made several decisions that already make me feel better about next year. He replaced the 3 position coaches that I felt needed upgrades, and he made those changes. He got more depth in the transfer portal with one more portal window to go. He recruited some very good high school talent some of which will make a huge difference next year. He has the next 2 QB1s already in the bag, and they're just biding their time to get into The Swamp. They will prove that Napier has a great eye for talent. However, we do have one of the hardest schedules in all of college football... nothing new for the Gators right now or even in the past... We deal with it and we became much better because of it. Let's just wait till we start playing games before you fence dwellers start leaning to one side or another. It's the silly/talking season and nothing is going to be settled by deriding our New Head Ball Coach. Hot seat my azz...
I think part of the problem is that Gator fans are success starved and they have long memories. You could almost cut and paste that quote from Stricklin and put it into Foley's mouth in what he said about Muschamp and unfortunately we all know how that turned out. Regardless of how badly everyone wanted it to happen for Coach Boom it eventually became clear that it never would. Stricklin appears to have pushed all his chips in on Napier and we can only hope he's betting the right cards, or we could be staring straight down the barrel of another lost decade of Florida Football.
If you pretend you didn’t eat it though, you might get in line for the multiple marshmallows later in tge day.
Yeah, that’s the Alabama way, isn’t it? Take your marshmallow now (and few others for good measure), then get right back in line tomorrow and dare them to call you out for it. (They won’t)
