lol i believe it's just in the state of Florida but even then....Sully is KILLLLLING it with recruiting...provided they end up at UF and don't go straight to the draft.
Sully is always getting top classes. We usually lose a few to the draft every year though. Really sucks because it makes it very hard to plan your classes. Sometimes you lose one you were really planning to get on campus, but on the flip side, sometimes you get a Brady Singer to show up even though everyone, including him, thought he would sign with the bigs.
I don't love the fact that our next TWO stud HS QB's are probably playing baseball, too. Other than Jameis, I don't remember a successful college QB being able to do both.
I wouldn’t worry about it too much. They will have to be VERY, VERY good to see the field in baseball. Football is footing the bill and will be the priority.
One thing Napier has in common with Sully is that they both look for good kids from strong family backgrounds. I think it will pay off for Napier like it has for Sully in the long run, too.
With the partial scholarships in baseball, Sully has to also find the kids that will qualify for academic scholly’s, and usually kids who’s families can afford all of the other necessities that are not provided…books, food, housing, etc. It’s a tricky business.
*could I doubt the strategy will change too much though, at least not until that support is actually there and shown that it will continue to be there.
A lefty that also plays baseball and reports baseball offers from both Florida and Georgia Tech. As a freshman, at Miami Doctors Charter (which doesn’t offer football) tossed back-to-back no hitters on the mound.
I don't understand this article in the Gville Sun at all. It says that Napier may ask Simmons to re-classify from the class of 2025 for 2023, i.e. to play this year. It says that Simmons has completed all his high school credits and already has some college credits. If that's true, how and why would he go back to high school this year? Florida Gators coach Billy Napier discusses adding QB, spring portal
If it were my kid I wouldn't push a 2 year early enrollment, let him mature mentally and physically, enjoy his high school experience. No need togrow up too fast and throw him to the wolves too early
He can pursue advanced degrees while still on scholarship, rather than the typical undergraduate degree
That's my thought. This kid appears to be very smart and more than likely looking at more than a 4 year degree. Personally, I don't think I like the idea very much, but it may be that Simmons and/or his family are the ones pushing this. Maybe it's better to get him enrolled now and reduce the chances he takes more visits or changes his mind. Maybe it gives him a year to adjust to college life and get a head start on learning the system to prepare to be ready for next year ... and maybe be an extreme emergency QB this season. And it separates Lagway and him by a year. I can't imagine Napier seeing him as any sort of option to actually play this season at his age, but who knows. Something just tells me that this idea may be coming more from Simmons and his family than Napier and UF.
If I recall isn’t he already 17? It’s not like he’s super young and maybe not so mature. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders - his gpa and coursework exemplifies that. Not worried if he jumps up two classes.
Yeah, I think it's going to happen....he is an older soph and he can certainly redshirt and adjust to the rigors of college football. I'm just saying if it was my kid I would take it slower.
