2020ff has been depressing if only because it has underscored how susceptible humanity is to herd behavior and collective stupidity …

The problem with that is when enough parents think that way, then these preventable diseases start to spread again, among the unvaccinated, including the very young, and immunocompromised. Than all of a suede you get a measles breakout at Disneyland.

    It’s already happening.

    https://www.usnews.com/news/health-...hio-infects-82-kids-most-of-them-unvaccinated

    32 unvaccinated kids hospitalized.

To be fair, it was happening in isolated pockets before the pandemic. Ironically more in liberal areas, thanks to a few hollywood types and yuppie soccer moms. The pandemic was a huge boon to these antivaxxer psycho, esp with it becoming part of top down political messaging in some right wing quarters. I’d imagine this sort of stuff will get worse and will probably only be reigned in when some kids start dropping from measles (and with how brain damaged some are, even kids dying of preventable disease might not be enough to wake them up).

Germ Theory does lend itself to perpetual hysteria.

Yes prior to Covid the driving force for antivaxxers was primarily upper middle class (and higher) democrats, granola eating types, mainly in the west and northwest. Marin county was terrible in the respect. But when Covid came along Marin county had very high vax rates. It is amazing how political affiliations drive certain behaviors.

When Trump appeared without a mask liberals put theirs on. When Trump did wear a mask liberals wore two.

Sides were chosen early. In spite of Trump’s deep complicity in fomenting pan-panic, he did convey a certain confidence that the fictitious pathogen would be defeated and that Americans should move on.

At the same time, the Trump-deranged saw it all as an occasion to blame Trump and readily conformed to the narrative that if you went outside, and saw someone you’d be on a ventilator in 48 hours.

It was pure stupid level on the part of Democrats, purely oppositional, however silly the attendant actions and talking points. It’s as if Trump had ‘Covid’ in a box and he foolishly (or maliciously) opened the box just to placate the people who selfishly wanted to open their businesses.

Are the millions of border crossers vaccinated for the measles?

Generally, yes. Vaccination rates are quite high in most countries of origin for migrants. Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador all have vaccination rates for measles above 80%.

Curious do you have a link, I thought most Mexican’s were not vaccinated which is what helped cause out breaks in California.
