I knew there was a writer's strike going on but haven't paid much attention to it. I figured it was about pay, but apparently writers and now actors are concerned about the impact of AI on their craft and the possibility of becoming obsolete.

I haven't been to the movies in 4 years and the only thing I watch on TV is Jeopardy. If AI takes over it will certainly be the final nail in the coffin as far as I'm concerned.

For 30 years, I've said we are all Luddites, but maybe non-practising. The same technologies that make our jobs/lives easier & easier, eventually make us obsolete.

    Thomas Pynchon

As the Liberty lads o'er the sea
Bought their freedom, and cheaply, with blood,
    So we, boys, we
Will die fighting, or live free,
And down with all kings but King Ludd!

Bravo to anyone who quotes Pynchon.

Can AI write comedy and make up jokes? If so, I guess humanity will eventually die laughing.

I see AI as more as a research tool (for now at least), and it's not even as reliable at that as many think. I'm sure it will only get better and more creative, but movies I see are based upon screenplays or novels written by humans. Have there been any well known screenplays predominantly written by AI?

Pretty sure the screen name is an homage

I think the hyping of AI is pretty intentional, not unlike when people bring up automation when you get around to talking about raising wages

A little off topic but,,, the wife and I were running errands and decided to stop at a Steak and Shake restaurant where we haven’t eaten at in a long time. Walked in and a dude showed us where to order at a station up front. Then he told us once we were done to go sit down and our order will be called by name. So we can get up and grab it to bring to our table.

We walked out and went next door to Glory Days where a waitress served us. Burger and chicken sandwich was pretty good. Will probably go back. Steak and Shake is off our list.
