Tim Scott announces presidential candidacy.

I don’t think Scott is a kook.

But similar to Haley, if he’s going to stand there and spout the same trashy dishonest talking points, then he’s useless.

 

Pub candidates have the very tough balancing act of trying to look sane while not alienating the bulk of the base by spouting conspiracy theories.
Not sure it’s possible.

 

If any candidate can beat Trump in the Republican primaries it will be Tim Scott rather than Ron DeSantis. Although there is probably little difference between DeSantis, Trump and Scott when it comes to substantive policies Tim Scott comes over as much more positive than DeSantis with his strategy that seems to begin and end with his "war on woke" or Trump's strategy of appealing to grievances and owning the libs. That being said, I still think the Orange One has to be the favorite and with the Republican method of allocating delegates based on winner-take-all, Trump could very well end up winning the nomination with under 40 percent of the primary votes cast. He managed to do it in 2016, with 44 percent of the votes.

 

Gotta believe the Trump camp’s take is the more the merrier. I think the Desantis belly flop is attracting more folks into the race

 

The DOJ is corrupt. Let's give them more money and resources. As for Tim Scott, he will drop out at some point and back DeSantis. Scott is being backed by Thune, who will be the next awful senate leader. Scott is just one of the many backed by GOP to stop Trump.

 

Spoken like a true member of the Cult of the Donald and typical of the Republican primary voters who will be responsible for Trump's nomination and for what it's worth DeSantis will end up dropping out before Scott. Ron DeSantis is the Jeb Bush/Scott Walker of the 2024 election cycle and will suffer the same fate as Jeb and Walker.

 

I wouldn’t vote for Tim or Nikki since they both abdicated support for democracy by thinking it is subservient to party and have shown the backbone of a jellyfish standing up to the worst elements, not just of the GOP, but of humanity….. HOWEVER, they likely would fall short of trying to impose a religious theocracy and cultural fascism that is dreamed of by the GOP. Maybe.

Seems like he's trying the "nice guy" approach, but I doubt his substantive platform will be different than Trump, DeSantis, and Haley.

One interesting contrast between Tim Scott and DeSantis is that DeSantis' wife and children have been a big part of his image. Tim Scott has never been married and does not have children - something many like MTG seem to think is critical for having legitimate takes about education and social issues. I looked it up, and apparently we have had only one President who never married: James Buchanan. There has been speculation about Buchanan's sexuality, and I'm wondering how much this might or might not affect Scott's campaign.

Nah, he's all in too. He is still just not saying every last one of the quiet parts out loud. But some he is already putting out there in an unmistakable way. He'll impose his beliefs on you with the full force of the state, pronto.

MAGA/America First is not a cult and it certainly is not DT. You have very little understanding of what makes up the conservative movement. All the money is behind DeSantis. All other primary candidates are being used as blunt force weapons against Trump and to prop up DeSantis at the end.

 

The more the merrier makes DJT happy. His base is going nowhere and this just spreads out the opposition votes. That was his path to nomination in the first place.

 

Not sure. I think the Koch machine is iso a moderate conservative to support and if Scott would stay away from resentment and grievance politics he could earn a massive, nationwide, well funded, ground game full of professionals.
