I don't think the legislature and governor are bigots and hate women. But it is troubling that they seem to have no problems with catering to those who are bigots and hate women.
We’ve also got Gator posters who would have no problem boycotting the program altogether if players got “too woke.” I’ll let you figure out who that contingent is.
I kind of hope Saban and Smart will start talking about it. We need a chip on our shoulder. But they won’t, because they have too many skeletons in their own backyards. It would help Florida if Saban and Smart talked about us more though, so I hope they do.
Mods, after reading through this thread I have had multiple occasions where I need a rating for “moronic”. Please give it a thought.
I wasn’t talking about UF, although I disagree with your take. I was talking about DeSantis attacking Disney based on ideology and cronyism. What you define as grievance studies others may call history. I don’t know how you rationalize you are the grand arbiter of what gets taught at universities.
You’d be safe.. I mean with the substance you’ve added to this thread why would anyone like you be concerned about a moronic rating? They drip with brilliance and cleverness.
I doubt Thomas Sowell would either. Thomas Sowell is a genius on race relations... period. His books should be mandatory reading for all people in high school and college.
Funny how you can possibly compare the potential for racism in the state of Florida with the states of Georgia and Alabama. Quite comical!!!
If Meatball Ron had his way Florida would become more like Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi too for that matter.
Everyone believes some things ought not be taught universities. The question is should oppressor vs. oppressed ideologies, which have a history leading to violence, revolution, and bloodshed, be taught using taxpayer dollars in our public universities? I say no. Others might say yes, and I would say they haven't learned the lessons of history. History tells us the outcome of placing groups into oppressor and oppressed buckets does not end well. It could be whites and Jews. That didn't end well in Nazi Germany. It could be proletariat and bourgeoise. That did not end well. It could be Jews and Muslims. That did not end well. It could be men and women. It could be LGBTQ and straight "cis" people. If you want conflict, violence, and revolution you teach people that they're in a group that is mortal enemies with other group. I don't think that is helpful. And I don't think our university dollars should be wasted on fomenting societal divisions.
What starts as as banning oppressor- oppressed subject matter ends up banning discussion of actual history like slavery and Jim Crow.

Kinda like Jim Crow 2 in Georgia with respect to voting!! How did that turn out for you? More black votes than ever before.
Personally, I do not know whether DeSantis is a racist or not. What I do know is that he supports the suppression of books including texts, biographies, other forms of non-fiction and fiction in schools that have even a remote focus on the history of racism in the US. Florida Scoured Math Textbooks for ‘Prohibited Topics.’ Next Up: Social Studies. A prominent conservative education group, whose members volunteered to review textbooks, objected to a slew of them, accusing publishers of “promoting their bias.” At least two publishers declined to participate altogether. And in a sign of how fraught the political landscape has become, one publisher created multiple versions of its social studies material, softening or eliminating references to race — even in the story of Rosa Parks — as it sought to gain approval in Florida. The Black Scholars Ron DeSantis Doesn’t Want Students to Read - Boston Review https://pen.org/florida-book-bans-not-a-hoax/ A publisher removed references to Rosa Parks' race in a draft of its textbook to comply with Florida's laws, NYT reports While these books have not yet been banned they are under consideration for banning.
