Looking at your short post history I don’t believe that was a joke.

Do I lean conservative? Sure, but that was a joke. Obviously, it was not taken as such.

Perhaps, but you don’t have enough of a posting history to indicate you were being sarcastic. Unfortunately, your post would be well within the norm of some right leaning posters here and I suspect would be taken as fact by at least half of all republicans.

Sometimes what the leaders of these corrupt countries need IS a lecture.

What U.S. charities and government agencies typically provide is the means for locals to take care of themselves. We have provided schools, water pipelines, and yes, I am sure we have provided hospitals. Many U.S. doctors volunteer their services in countries like this.

The truth is this: the U.S. typically refuses to get involved in bribery, which is what the leaders of many of these countries demand, even when you are trying to build a hospital or school in their country. Bribery is so routine in China that they pay the bribe as a matter of course, as long as they will get a payout in the end. That is true when they build a hospital (typically in a country where they are taking over mining operations or some other natural resource), a train system, a dam, or any other project. The U.S. does positive things in African countries with little or no hope of any payout.

Don't ask for a bribe, and you won't get a lecture.

Sounds like you need a lecture from the U.S. gov't.

My question is, if they simply stop paying, what’s the repercussion outside of a crappy bond rating? What can China do?
