By: David Wunderlich -- May 17, 2023 The biggest story of the past dozen years in the SEC East has been the rise of Georgia and the stagnation at Florida. It looked like the Gators had risen back to where they were in the Spurrier days under Urban Meyer, but the success proved fleeting due to Meyer’s burnout and poor program culture management. Florida has since gone through a series of coaches who weren’t big enough for the job in their own various ways. The Big Lesson from Georgia’s rise while Florida stagnated | GatorCountry.com
Nice article....but in every article is it somehow against the sportswriter code to never mention the elephant in the room which of course is the blatant cheating with no consequences for the "elite" programs?
All I know is if the pos dawgs win another championship this season I'm done with college football. Oh, and check the Puppies schedule this year. What a joke.
That it is! UT Martin Ball St South Carolina UAB @ Auburn Kentucky @ Vanderbilt Florida (Jax) Missouri Ole Miss @ Tennessee @ Georgia Tech
Stricklin has talked to this effect before. His answer for why he didn’t spend more during the Mullen era was that Mullen never made a compelling case for it.…..” He nails it after this. Poor admin by AD, not just the HC. AD has to be thinking bigger and broader. Much like a head coach not worrying about being an OC or QBC
If Stricklin is trying to turn this program into Mississippi St. East then he needs go. if the school admin does not care about sports then the Bull Gators need to pay them a visit.
Four complete trash games that should never even been scheduled and Florida, Tennessee and Auburn aren’t what they should be.
And the administration needs to be spending enough money to recruit as well as anything in the country.
I live up here about an hour from Athens and you even hear their fans bragging about how Turdy Fart gets away with it. It makes me sick to even see the slimey POS
I still have no idea why we hired Stricklin. What did he do at Mississippi State that made anyone say “that’s the guy to succeed Jeremy Foley one day.” He didn’t even hire MSU’s current baseball coach, who won the school’s one and only NC in any sport. I will say Stricklin is a good fundraiser, but given how Foley was so frugal I have a hard time believing they wanted his successor to be the money raising guy.
It makes me realize what a tub of crap Napier inherited. He’s smart and had to see what he was getting into, a complete overhaul and complete rebuild. Well it looks to me like he is laying the foundation and the recruiting is going in the right direction, so in a short time Napier has achieved a lot behind the scenes that will translate to better on field play. And that’s all I ask for my dollar.
He has removed nearly all the obstacles that were in the way that we have spent the last 10 years bitching about. At least the things that are within his control. But he has no control over admissions and up until a month or two ago he had no real influence over NIL either. The 2 things that keep biting us in the ass. This was far from a turnkey program when he was hired.
That he did do. I give him props for his ability to fundraise. Scrapping the original football facility plans and building a new baseball stadium so that the right football facility could be built on McKethan’s land was brilliant. More costs, but well worth it. Most of all that new facility has plenty of room for future expansion. He’s also overseen facility improvements and renovations for the minor sports. Now the plans to modernize BHG ambitious and I’m hopeful they can be carried out. So Stricklin has the fundraising, strategic planning, and financial part down. But being an AD is so much more. If we could have a Foley clone handling the hires and people while Stricklin handles the money and building that would be great.
Its pretty much all there but paying for the top classes. Somebody on another site took their picture with a certain rb that said his choice would be us or Texas. I’d bet nil will decide which. The player denied that to the guy supposedly but money talks. Get the players and only then will will know if zNapier can push them to the top. Without equal talent, don’t blame the staff.
I’m not sold on Foley and football. All around sports yes but making foo the number one priority, no.
He did hire Urban which accounts for 2/3 NCs. Zook and Muschamp were mistakes but if we blame him for those we must give credit for Urban. Again, Foley had his strengths which was solid hires (for the most part), and people skills/PR. We didn’t have scandals with Foley, so far Stricklin’s had two. But he was waaaaay too frugal and yes didn’t realize he must feed the football beast first, second, and third so that it can then feed the rest of the sports. Stricklin can fundraise but so far none of his hires have proven to be the right one; Newbauer and Amato were disasters, Mullen was short-lived success without a sustainable future, Golden, Napier, the new women’s hoops coach, and the new soccer coach too early to tell.
