Sigh. Do we really need another conspiracy thread? Conspiracies don't exist! They're the hobgoblins and boogeymen of overly imaginative minds that never matured to the age of reason. You can't keep that many people silent. Somebody's going to talk. Sheer incompetence explains 100% of it. I've run all of this through my chosen fact checking sites. The police are our friends. They protect and serve. Show a little gratitude.

    Dumbest post of the year.
    Right here.
If you truly believe that, you’d never call them if you were in trouble.

I have never had to call the police. I have a dog. He is loyal and trustworthy. Have you read nothing in this thread?

I hope you never have to call them.
I have called a few times and they acted professionally and appreciated our call.
I have found that life gives you what you give it. I tend to treat people with respect and people usually reciprocate.
I also try to buy cops food when they dine in the same establishment I’m in.
And I tell them they are appreciated.

I am not debating whether there are bad cops or they should be above the law, I am just stating that the nature of such a job attracts a particular type of person.

It’s like saying politics attracts dirt bag types.
    LE attracts macho dudes.
We get it. I’m not happy about it but I understand how the world works.

When I lived in Atlanta my best friend was a cpa. He started off doing cops taxes cheap and became friendly with many. One detective said there was almost no difference between cops and criminals. They often came from the same families. His position was some went good and some went bad. I think he was optimistic.

Seems like a thread littered with gross generalizations. Watch some you tube videos and decide that is how the world works.

Realistically, cops aren’t the highest paid profession, and it’s an above average risk occupation. Cops are just people. They are probably on average no better or worse than anybody else. With millions of cops nationwide there will be tens of thousands, or more that are corrupt or do a crappy job.

While cops have to have accountability, at the same time much of the mentality of this thread only makes the situation worse. They feel it becomes and us vs them scenario, which compounds the bad behaviors and the stick up for your cop buddies no matter what mentality.

Also you have to be realistic. Cops tend to see the worst in people every day. I’m sure it rubs off. Sometimes you are put in difficult situations and you don’t get it right. Then everybody second guesses you.

This isn’t excusing any of the horrible behavior in any of these videos (which I didn’t watch). Just trying to put some realistic perspective here. When the BLM thing got legs there was a wide perception that unarmed blacks were getting killed by cops in the thousands. The actual number is about 20 per year, some of those justifiable. While those instances are tragic they aren’t indicative of most of the millions of police interactions every day.

That hasn’t been my experience, but I hate to generalize. You probably shouldn’t either.

Unfortunately, you’re correct: it begins at home - black homes AND white homes. Cops have to deal with it. I respect them, but I’d have more if they so often didn’t protect the bad ones.

If the attitude of most cops wasn’t always the other officer is always right and the citizen is always wrong, it would be better. Internal affairs is often seen as the bad guys on the force when they should be lauded as heroes weeding out the bad.

It’s about the culture, not the individual officers. It’s about society setting standards for those it authorizes to use deadly force in society’s name.

The culture is broken. And that’s as much cause as effect of other broken cultures in society, I would submit more cause than effect.

Disagree. I’ve known and worked with a lot who were as good a person as any I’ve know in my 70 years on this earth.

Two of my best friends were murdered on the job. Tampa police officers Randy Bell who I attended the academy with and Ricky Childers who I got to know on the job.

But y’all go on putting all cops down if it makes you feel better.
