Well, on the other hand I have a good friend that grew up in Pitt, went to grad school at WVa and I hired in Miami many years ago. He couldnt wait to get out of the Wva/Pitt area and is still in Miami thirty years later.

It was not Citizens United that ruled that. That was already established law. Citizens United essentially overruled the decisions that found that campaign finance restrictions pass strict scrutiny. (It didn't fully overrule that strain of case law, but we're headed in that direction.)

The whole Disney feud would be rather humorous if it wasnt so pathetic. I am certainly not a big Disney fan, only been once when my son was young and as we all know traffic around I4 totally sucks.

On point, Disney has historically been a huge contributor to Republican campaigns in Florida including that of the governor. I doubt they will be sending contributions his way any time soon. In fact, the way this is going I wouldnt be surprised to see them fund an opponent.

I'm laughing at a person who doesn't even stand up for the ACTUAL First Amendment claiming that he's "a big believer in the spirit of the First Amendment." Stop lying. Stop making excuses. Stop with the whataboutism. Stop talking out of both sides of your mouth. The lines have been drawn. If you defend DeSantis retaliating against Americans for criticizing his government and its priorities, you oppose the First Amendment. Full stop.

You continue to provide cover for Democrats violating the First Amendment by pretending that doesn't happen.

You can give two shits about the First Amendment if it doesn't benefit you. All it is to you is a weapon.

All I want is mutually assured destruction. The best way to have a society that respects the First Amendment and the spirit of free speech is by holding each side accountable when they don't respect those rules.

Now, enjoy sleeping in the bed that you just crapped in.

Side note: If all Republicans listened to gator_lawyer's rules for being a decent person pretty much the only acceptable Republicans to endorse are Liz Cheney and Susan Collins.

For that reason, I can give two shits about where he draws the line. He's going to hate me and he's going to hate you anyways unless you become for all intents and purposes a political ally. So do what you think is right. And if he were to give you a lecture about decency, you'd be better off using that advice as toilet paper.

No, I don't lol. You try to desperately to make everybody else as hypocritical as you are. I criticize, and even sue, Democrats who violate the First Amendment. Hell, I've criticized Democrats who spoke about violating the First Amendment but didn't even follow through. You, on the other hand, have spent months defending DeSantis's attacks on free speech.

Yes, I have stood up in front of Black crowds and Jewish crowds and defended First Amendment protection of hate speech, even when it allows the worst of the worst (Klansmen, Nazis, etc.) to spew hate, because I only care about the First Amendment when it benefits me. Suuuuuuuure. You project your lack of principle on to others.

That is the hypocrisy. You're not holding both sides accountable. You're holding one side accountable. Holding both sides accountable is standing up to your own side when they're doing it. You don't do that. You defend DeSantis.

You know what I want? For the government to not violate people's free speech rights. Do you know how I fight to make that reality? By standing up to the government, regardless of the party in power, when it does. That's what it means to believe in something.

This goes back to Santa Clara. Corporations have been receiving more and more protections under the 1st for a long long time. You are trying to purposely conflate 2 arguments. And it does not exclude either side from using the established rulings to their favor. Right now...the left can use this doctrine against Desantis. And it is accurate. Corporations are entitled to protections under the 1st. Including political speech. Desantis admitted to using his power to stifle said free speech. This is pretty cut and dry. Anyone who follows the Constitution would abhor what Desantis is trying to do.

You repeatedly asked me for examples of Democrats violating (or attempting to violate) the First Amendment then made excuses for all of them acting as though it doesn't happen. Then when I pressed you on it for being a political hack, you claimed that you've sued Democrats for First Amendment violations, but you failed to provide any names or any expression of disapproval for that matter. Meanwhile, here you are grandstanding and putting on this whole show because DeSantis did something that probably will not harm Disney in any real way.

In other words, Democrats never violate the First Amendment when the issue is whether a Republican's actions aren't unprecedented.

But Democrats do violate the First Amendment when your integrity is questioned.

Sounds to me like you're a liar.

Okay, so give me the names of Democrats you've sued and talk to me about how terrible they are.

No I'm not. You're holding one side accountable. You don't see a problem when the justice system plays out against the government official who violated the First Amendment and you don't see a problem when it's just a matter of the politician merely threatening the person/business. You call it "hot air."

Yet despite claiming that DeSantis will lose in court, here you are throwing a temper tantrum.

All I'm saying is in an ideal world, I would oppose this. But if this is the game, so be it. And you of all people are the last person that should be complaining. I'd rather fight fire with fire than die a martyr.

Alright then let's hear you talk about those Democrats you've sued for First Amendment violations. You said it doesn't happen. You asked me for examples. Then you acted like you experienced examples first hand.

    So, let's hear it.

If you're not a political hack, let's hear you talk about it. I've had enough of your grandstanding with DeSantis.

    Welcome.

First of all, I don't think DeSantis said that he's doing this to "stifle free speech." Second of all, the conversation regarding a First Amendment violation does not end with a person "admitting" they are "trying to stifle free speech." You have to address whether the right was actually violated.

And considering this is just a case of revoking status as a special tax district, we'll see.

If it doesn't hold up, the system will have played out as it was supposed to. I certainly won't complain.

    LOL @gator_lawyer

I have not been able to see anything they post for quite some time. Not because of me. But because they (not sure if this is their preferred pronoun :confused:o_O:eek::D:devil:;)) could not argue their side. So good old lawyer has blocked me so I can’t even see his/her position. A true sign of weakness. I do hope they will reengage one day…

They may have given some to Florida pubs since Florida has been a red state for quite some time (though now with DeSantis more red than ever) and Disney World being in Orlando. But they clearly support dems as a whole more. And I agree they got their feelings hurt with their lying about the bill and DeSantis calling them on it. And will likely give less now to pubs in Florida.

So you admit to hypocrisy. Thank you.

You are done here. You admit to not following the Constitution. Own it. You are no different than the followers of any autocrat or dictator because you support the punishment of your political opposition. You seriously need to step away from the hate diet you are on and recalibrate. Your compass is broken. Fix it.

No, I admit to being in a culture war.

If this gets shot down, provided that Democrats get shot down for similar attempts I won't question it. I will trust the judgment of the courts. The Constitution wins and that's a good thing. And if the outcome is businesses feel pressured by both parties to stay quiet on political issues not tied to their business, that's a better outcome for the country than businesses being pressured by one party.
