2000 jobs at 120k is a big deal. That is over a billion dollars in 5 years which doesn't include what the company would spend outside of salary. Teachers, landscapers, restaurants and shops. You are right though how many other companies are going to second guess where they move their business

I agree with you in Alabama. They have invested significantly in their infrastructure, including their Universities. Bama, academically, has gotten significantly better in the last decade. Their law school is now a top 25 law school. Huntsville is a highly educated town, and many companies are moving there due to the cost of living.

They are taking a long view of bettering their state. Unlike Florida’s current administration who’s main purpose seems to be geared towards eradicating the State of homosexuals and ensuring our children are exposed to the bare minimal floor of the arts and literature.

If this were really damaging to Disney, I would have a problem with it.

This is pretty much just enough to send a message, but not enough to cause any real harm.

Yes. It’s quantifiable economic damage, and there are also downstream economic multiplayer effects.

I’m not saying it’s nothing, more or less just that it’s not like Lake Nona itself is visibly hurting for growth or jobs. It’s a loss that will just be absorbed into the economy. It’s still not a good idea. I guess I shouldn’t have implied that it only matters when it’s a “one factory town” type of job loss. As I think Desantis is just as absurd as AOC on this issue, obviously i wasn’t intending to do that.

I don't thin anyone here has shed a tear over Disney getting hurt. This isn't about that

I know it isn't, it's about grasping at whatever straws you can to make Ron DeSantis your next boogeyman.

That’s fair point, to be sure, but it glosses over the fact that Orlando NEGOTIATED extensively with Disney and ultimately facilitated tax incentives to the tune of $500,000,000 to coax Disney to built its Campus and bring the jobs to Orlando. And thus, to those who say Disney stuck its finger in the eye of the will of the voters, so too did DeSantis when he caused the cancellation of a mammoth economic windfall to the City that the voter’s representatives sought out, enticed and approved.

Agree with everything you say about Disney corporate. But remember, there are always innocent victims in these type of battles. And I really don’t think that DeSantis and crew care that they’re blowing things up. This political movement is very nihilistic.

My point is that Disney, here, is a Florida corporation. Its owner might be a California citizen, but Disney here is not a foreigner, it is a Floridian. I may be wrong, and I’m not taking the time to fact-check, but the lawsuits confirm the point. I’m pretty sure it’s why Disney could not remove the State lawsuit to a federal court, because there was no diversity.

Agreed, if this continues it will have a significant economic impact for the state.

Obviously stopping billion dollar projects affects many people.

Yeah, a lot of these same people hate big businesses and corporations. They act like corporations stole their wealth.

I'm willing to admit the DeSantis-Disney feud is entirely about politics, but they're pretending it's about principles on their end. And that is such a load of crap.

Speaking of boogeymen. What politicians can you name in recent years that actively celebrated job killing?

I can think of two. Comrade AOC and Comrade Desantis.

Say what you want, but I understand from my friends in Pittsburgh that West Virginia is spectacular. If I didn’t have to work down here (and a law practice really isn’t portable to another state), I would look there, amongst other places.

    That would make sense.

That doesn't change the fact that the entity wagging the proverbial subsidiary tail is Californian.

In the flip side, and maybe I have you confused with someone else, but aren’t you the guy that is up in arms about trans and pronouns and grooming and all of the evils thereto, but have never met or spoken to a trans?

Short-term loss on the jobs front that will correct itself, long-term gain on the culture front.

I’m pretty sure the Orlando Economic Department (or whatever name they go by) cares about the losses. There’s a good reason why they helped negotiate a $500 MILLION tax incentive to bring the Project and jobs.

Seems this story may be a bit overblown. From the Pensacola News:

In an email from Josh D’Amaro, who oversees Disney’s parks, he notes that the company still has $17 billion in investments planned for Disney World over the next decade, which would bring roughly 13,000 jobs.

    Disney aint going anywhere
