You would do well to go educate yourself on the success of Alabama’s Economic Development initiatives over the last 15-20 years. In 10 more years or so, even snotty libs who don’t get around much won’t be able to poke fun at them.

Lol, well they'll be moving there while the places they claim are paradises right now turn into another New York, Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, Portland, San Francisco, etc. If they amass enough numbers in the metro areas there, then we'll be able to add the Alabama metros to the above list.

I’m not aware of any lack of construction activity in this state at this time. Architects, Engineers, and contractors have more than we can handle on our plates right now. Disney’s little sprawl project is a drop in the bucket. The 900 per day are still coming just like they have since the 80s, so I whole-heartedly agree on your second point.

 

Didn’t used to be. I have multiple friends and family that are Disneyphiles, a terrible and incurable condition. I haven’t enjoyed a Disney park since KC & The Sunshine Band played Grad Night at the peak of their career.

Add spring fed creeks and rivers, national forests, totally undeveloped barrier islands, stretches of highway longer than five miles without a Circle K or Murphy Oil, the Everglades, and our Gators to the good list. I agree that too many people is starting to register, and having had a cat 5 Hurricane in my living room with me, they suck. But I really agree with the Schlitz part!

 

In no way will removing cheap labor make Florida a cheaper place to live. That's absolutely backwards. California is expensive because wages are high there. Same with NY and all the other blue places you want to poo poo. Removing cheap labor will make Florida a more expensive place to live.

 

You’re looking backward. Check their growth and the number of companies relocating or starting operations there. Salaries and wages are climbing, and will continue. The labor force there is great. Very efficient. Show up every day, don’t search for things to bitch about and give you a good days work. You won’t find too many better educated areas than Huntsville (Redstone Arsenal and Marshall) , and the rest of the state has noticed what getting a couple of good employers can do for an area.

 

I think he was talking about the 2,000 Disney employees moving to Lake Nona. Wonder if he realizes he’s now AOC? Same dumb argument she used against Amazon HQ2. Housing is expensive. Let’s kill the project, drive away jobs to make housing cheaper. Brilliant!

If we are talking migrants. You are correct, driving them out is inflationary to ag and construction and will probably lead to shortages. Hopefully nobody here on a Gator forum is competing against illegal immigrants for affordable housing. If any are, that’s kind of a “you problem”.

True. It’s hard to see what he’s taking about, since this poster responds to your post about immigrants but goes on about Disney and “red states vs blue states”. I guess there is no point. Just another dude gone off the deep end in his culture war.

 

Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Outside of a few niche hubs near education centers and aerospace, much of Alabama is basically like a 3rd world country, and in recent years has only Mississippi thank for not being rock bottom America in almost every economic measure. Some companies are moving their manufacturing to exploit cheap labor and lax standards, like they do in 3rd world countries. Sometimes growth is higher in the “developing world” simply because there is nowhere to go but up, and costs are relatively low.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s marginally better auto plants go to Alabama or South Carolina than to Mexico. We should all have a slight bias toward made in USA. But then again if central and South America had opportunities their people wouldn’t have to “migrate” so much looking for work or to escape violence. So even that features some tradeoff. Obviously at the local level it can be a big deal when a smallish town gains a major employer (just as it’s destructive when a large employer leaves for Asia or whatever).

Economic engines bring big corporations. Big corporations bring blue voters. Blue voters turn states into Chicago, Detroit, New York, and California. The rats jump ship and move to states that are not like New York and California, and then the next state they move to is the new host to be destroyed next. West Virginia, Alabama, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Tennessee sound good to me.

 

Being silent on a bill regarding instruction in schooling is not bigoted, nor is the bill itself.

 

If all it takes to "affect" a corporation is for it to maybe affect the personal feelings of validation of some employees, then every political issue affects the corporation.
