Waldrep and Slater. Struggled a little here and there, but held them to 2 earned runs. Excellent. And the bats came alive when it was needed. Only KY's 5th home loss of the season. #6 coming tomorrow.
That was a satisfying win. That wins losses graphic they showed near the end of the game was wrong. They had us with a 17-9 record and in fourth place in the SEC East... clowns.
Great win against a ranked team that had lost only 4 of 28 at home... make that 5 of 29 now! Waldrep and Slater very solid... Some concerns about the bottom of the order--- Heyman and Robertson in particular have done very little lately and Robertson attempts at bunting are sad to witness. I guess these guys have never been taught the fundamentals of bunting. Win on the road against UK is Huge at this point in season so no complaints- but a few things remain to be ironed out. I will enjoy the big win tonight! While we're at it- I never though Mingione was an a- hole but he is running a close second to the Vols HC. Mingione complaining about perfect strike calls and trying to ice us with interminable mound visits- home plate blue was very liberal in allowing UK a lot of stalling between pitching changes. Bush League stuff.
Yep, everything you just said I can agree with. And yes, that second to the last out, third strike on Gilliam, was a perfectly thrown strike... right down the middle of the plate.
With this win Florida 19-9 can finish no lower than third in the SEC but have clinched first place in the SEC East. Arkansas at 20-8 (1 game up) and LSU at 18-9 (half game behind) can finish better than us if we lose either of the last two. Question, if we end up tied for first with Arkansas does anyone know how they decide who gets the top seed in the SECT?
Whichever had the best record against the tournament #3 would be the #1 seed unless that's a tie or one team didn't play them. Then it's on to #4, etc. Arkansas wins if tie broken due to USC, Auburn, or UT. UF wins if tie broken based on series vs. Vanderbilt. (LSU and Kentucky aren't common opponents.)
Well done tonight Gators. Yes we had a few mistakes but it was good to see both hitting and pitching staying consistently good from one series to the next. I recall the radio guys saying this game started just like the Vanderbilt games last week. Tomorrow is another clutch opportunity for Sproat to give us a chance to either catch Arkansas or at least keep us within reach on the last day of the season. As Sully said on the postgame, I expect Sproat to have a good day tomorrow on 7 days rest. On the flip side Kentucky starter Zack Lee last pitched on Sunday but was pulled after only 2 innings without giving up a run and only facing 9 batters. The bottom half of the order for us didn't have a good day but they seem to find a way in any series we win to have a positive effect in at least one game somewhere. Look for better things to come from them tomorrow. Shelnut, Fabian, or Robertson might all be on base twice in Friday's game. As for Kurland, what a turn around. I was one who was pushing Rivera as a leadoff candidate late in the season. But Mr. Kurland proved me wrong. I am glad that Sully moved Langford back to batting second, which was always my preference. Another great job by the pitching staff only needing two pitchers for the win over 9 innings. Tomorrow is set for Sproat, Abner, then Neely to close. Kentucky still has plenty of arms for the human "excuse me while I argue some more" delay to play his own games. But that could back fire on him for Sunday if he keeps rotating arms thru every day. Get ready Gators for a good day tomorrow.
That's actually great news because for us to tie Arkansas, Vandy has to win one over Arky which means only SC could catch Vandy to affect our 1st place tie. So basically we need to win out, Vandy win one, and SC lose one. Then we would get the top seed. Why, I'm hoping we stay away from LSU on Thursday, probably the 2nd or 3rd seed in this scenario, in case LSU doesn't want to pitch Skenes on Wednesday and schedules him for Thursday.
One down, two to go. Well in, Florida!!! Sproat on the bump Friday evening up in Lexington. Go Gators!
