Idc what anybody says about numbers in the RB room, or anything, we have to go all out for this guy and keep him home. He is going to be a monster and he is 10 minutes away. Lock him down. BUILD THAT WALL
We have great RB recruits and it is likely Texas will overpay for him ala Baxter. Have to choose your battles with the NIL $ and I suspect this one will be tough to comepete in
How much is it worth to keep him from UGA, Tennessee or Miami and Texas which we play against soon? We might play Texas before he graduates... And what if he's the "unicorn" running back we haven't had since Fred Taylor? I know he's an NIL guy, but there has to be a way to meet in the middle somewhere. I just hope we do try and get him an NIL deal... within reason.
within reason is the operative phrase...we have made a strong offer, but we won't/can't offer stupid money, especially on a RB. I would spend crazy money on Jeremiah Smith or an elite OT or DE like Colin Simmons before any RB
Colin Simmons is definitely worth it... so is Smith. I just wonder if this limit is someone's ethical cash limit, or just that we can't financially cover more. I have a feeling it's the former.
I would say both are limitations from my understanding...I would also add the issue of overpaying one guy impacts the remaining roster. How do you look at Etienne and tell him we are paying an unproven freshman 5 times what we pay him?
You bring up a good point, it would NOT be fair to Etienne, so raise his NIL too. Next year is probably the last year for Montrell Johnson, then we probably lose Etienne to the NFL the following year. We need numbers for many reasons. If we want to play we have to pay... within reason, but who makes that determination? Besides that if it doesn't work out they can just move on an ask some other school for NIL cash. We no longer have a 4 year obligation if we over pay for one year. But I do think Smith and Simmons are worthy of getting into an Orange and Blue uni...
Can only pay what you have, thus IMO better to sign very good RB's like we have committed than overpay for another.
I think what he is saying is that RB isn’t the position we want to be pooling stupid money together to overspend right now. Given the strength of that room and who we have committed for 24 already, it’s not where we want to throw money. There is a reason Kirby & Nicky keep tripping over themselves to flip Bowen. He’s really good and at the top of the board. The other name’s mentioned Simmons, Smith are different. We have no real game changer at either position.
I believe Wilson will be a game changer but even if he turns out to be one, we need way more than just him
No one is talking about handing over "stupid" money. All of this discussion is for money within reason. No one deserves crazy/stupid money... no one. That's no good for anyone. I just wish I knew if we are done at running back or if we're considering him. And if we are considering him or someone else. We were considering another transfer running back, but he already landed on another team. So, it's obvious that our coaching staff want one more back.
One thing is for sure, the NIL has poisoned college football thanks to little to no real oversight by the feckless NCAA.
Well, Eric Kresser favorably compared our current RB commit to Fred Taylor, so I think our rivals are as concerned about flipping our commit as we are concerned about keeping Gibson from our rivals. Nobody can take the top 5 RB in the country to keep them from their competition. I do get your premise though. Do you overpay and lock up a guy like Raiola or Gibson early to get other top guys easier because they want to play with the best?
Lol... I just now read how Eric Kresser thinks about Bowens - Gators online. Called him Bowens comparable to Fred Taylor. Gators Online Home | On3.com I the end even if we don't sign another running back we are set for next year.
Don’t you know he wished there was another year in Kresser though? Between Kresser and Cam Newton we’ve had 2 solid championship quarterbacks who never had the opportunity play meaningful downs at UF. Timing is everything
Aha - The unspoken elephant in the room. You pay some HS stud 3 - 4x what a productive 2 year starter makes. The kid then is a bust. No locker room worries or issues? I beg to disagree. Oh and regarding this Gainesville kid, what were many posting earlier when NIL was developing? Not a huge impact?? Apparently the higher bidder concerns do have merit.
