Bud Light sales plunge 24% in latest week since Dylan Mulvaney disaster

Nationwide retail sales of Bud Light sales dropped 23.6% versus a year ago during the week ended May 6 — slightly worse than the 23.3% decline for the week ended April 29, according to data from Bump Williams Consulting and NielsenIQ data.

Sales of other Anheuser-Busch brands also continued to drop, albeit at a slower rate than the week before. Those included Budweiser, down 9.7% versus an 11.4% drop a week earlier; Michelob Ultra, down 2.9% versus 4.3%; and Natural Light, down 2.5% versus 5.2% the previous week.

 

I was cycling ‍yesterday morning and at 7:20am observed an older gentleman driving a small Japanese or Korean SUV throw a can out of the passenger’s widow. I doubled back to see what it was and noted it was an empty “Natural Light”. Man, I hope the guy wasn’t drinking his first beer that early in the day. Plus, he shouldn’t be throwing trash onto the roadside …… but at least it wasn’t an empty bottle that broke in the bike lane!

Anheuser-Busch earnings will decline 26 percent in the US this year after Bud Light alienated swathes of its customers through a tie-up with trans influencer Dylan Mulvaney, JPMorgan analysts have predicted.

'We believe there is a subset of American consumers who will not drink a Bud Light for the foreseeable future,' the analysts said on Tuesday.

JPMorgan's note said the expected decline in earnings, before interest and tax, will follow a 12 percent drop in volume and a 10 percent decline in sales.
