Problem is, you tax the rich too much and they will move operations to other friendlier places. We lose jobs.
If you don’t do big give aways for the poor, they will revolt and demand more free things. Don’t need jobs, govt will steal from the rich and give it to the “needy”.

So what are the big giveaways to the poor? Medicaid? Food stamps?

It’s all a balance. Budweiser sold themselves to a foreign brewery that they owned to avoid taxes. That is why I won’t drink their swill. I don’t give a darn about their advertisements. CVS tried to do the same but the feds passed a law or a rule saying to take Medicare you need to be a domestic business.

No. Those have been in place. There is always a new giveaway. College loan forgiveness ring any bells?

Did not think Dems were the only ones in college with debt. Wow, thanks.

Dems are the only ones who want to pay off student loans.

Yeah, Democrats talk a big game when it comes to removing tax code loopholes but their record says otherwise.

Most are either on the boat of "tax reform" as you mentioned without actually doing anything except increase the tax burden on the middle class, or go full looney tune with proposals like a wealth tax or taxes on unrealized income.

I think you're the one misunderstanding the point.

My standard of fair is calling the strike zone like the umpire sees it.

The "equity" standard of fair is the umpire calling the zone so both teams end with the same number of strikes and balls called.

No, I'm not making a laffer curve argument.

The laffer curve is about government revenue, I'm talking about overall prosperity and economic prosperity.

Government revenue is just one factor.

as tripswrong sees it…the umpires are racist and won’t call a fair game.
Sad way to go through life. It’s like the children who never grow up and never learn to take responsibility for themselves. It’s always someone else’s fault.

No, that's not the 'equity' standard of fair. The 'equity' standard of fair would be more like ensuring that one team at least has shoes and gloves to play with against a team that has all the best equipment.

I think we should try to make everything fair, but within reason.

Just because there's bad umpires out there, and some games aren't called fairly doesn't mean we scrap the whole system and demand that the umpire calls the same exact number or strikes and balls for both teams. That is a classic example of being more unfair by trying to be fair.

Everyone would be a lot better off if they accepted that no system is perfect, no human being is perfect, and you're better off dealing with little biases and imperfections as far as outcomes go than you are with scrapping the whole system and codifying laws that are unfair on their face.

And mandating the same balls and strikes for every team regardless of pitch placement is unfair on its face.

    1. That's not the equity standard of fair.
    2. Unless you want to go full Communist, the rich and well-connected will always have advantages over those who aren't rich or well-connected. So what exactly do you think everyone should be entitled to?

Go read that dudes past posts to pubs. He’s right up your alley. He leaves condescending posts and he gets them back. It’s the natural order of things. Why you can’t see it is beyond me.

You are welcome to spend your own money to equip those who you believe would do better with your resources.
Please do not expect all Americans to use our money on those who may or may not appreciate nor understand the value in these resources.

    1. You are making up your own definition of equity.

    2. Continuing our baseball example, I think a team of poor kids playing a team of rich kids should at least be entitled to gloves, bats, and balls.
