It was in Auburn..lol tie game bottom 5th, loaded , 1 out,,delayed never resumed.

Apparently the curfew rule changed b/c of that game... but still thought it was only for week 10.

Sorry I forgot that one. I was thinking they never played and couldn't remember who was the home team. Either way it stinks to high heaven looking back since Alabama and TA&M are now allowed to start a game at 7 PM on a Sunday.

    If we…
-Just don’t get swept by SC, and/or
-Win at least one of the losses against Bama, Auburn, UT, UGA, and ATM…
-we’d be sitting at 20-7, clearcut #1 in the SEC, going into a final weekend against UK, and a virtual lock for a top 4 national seed.

    Winning conference games matters!

I see it as careful strategy in looking to avoid the #1 overall seed. Wake is wise to the plan hence their decision to fall yesterday. It will take coaching genius to win the SEC without slotting ourselves as the #1 overall seed; we'll see how it plays out.

Yeah, they do. But at this point I think we're pretty much a lock for national seed. We're 7-2 in SEC series and have a series win against Miami, who will probably be top 10 this week as well.

Just looking at the SEC teams with a winning record in conference play; 40-13 at home vs. other SEC teams with a winning record.

    Arkansas: 8-1 (AU/UT/SC)
    FLORIDA: 5-1 (AU/VU)
    Vandy: 5-1 (SC/UK)
    Kentucky: 3-0 (SC)
    Tennessee: 6-3 (UF/VU/UK)
    LSU: 6-3 (AR/UT/UK)
    Carolina: 5-3 (LS/UF/AU)
    Auburn: 2-1 (LS)

Only two teams in the SEC have an overall winning record in road games (FLORIDA/LSU). Of course, Arkansas can join them with a sweep at Vandy.

It's rare to have 4 national seeds from the same conference, but it has happened before. The SEC has 4 teams that could be national seeds:

    Arkansas
    Florida
    LSU
    Vanderbilt

South Carolina and Kentucky could be regional hosts. Alabama and Auburn are borderline hosting.

Half of the SEC could be in the top 16 or the SEC could be half of the top 16. I don't see any conference matching the quality and depth of the SEC in 2023. That won't decide the national champion, see Arkansas in 2022, but it gives the SEC more chances to advance to the College World Series.

First, UF needs to go to UK and win a series on the road against a wildcat team that is #1 in the RPI. Me? I don't yet think UF has a national seed sewn up. It will be a huge series in Lexington running Thursday-Saturday. Win the series and I think UF is a national seed regardless of what happens in the SEC tourney. I like a focused UF team's chances of winning the series and securing a national seed.

I tend to think there’s enough anti-SEC sentiment across the rest of the country to prevent 4 SEC teams in the top 8.

I imagine the loser of the Arkie-Vandy series might drop to at least a 9 seed, just outside the top 8. If one of the top 4 were to get swept, that could also justify the selection committee to drop that swept team even lower. Trust me, many across the country would love nothing more than one of the top 4 SEC programs to get swept next weekend and provide the excuse they so desperately want.

Beyond that, I think you’ll see some strategic seeding across the 16 hosts whereas many of the SEC schools would meet each other in the supers. Gotta do everything in their power to limit how many SEC programs make the CWS, and what better way than make them eliminate each other beforehand?

All this typing is causing my tin foil hat to fall off, BRB

Vandy needs to turn it around quickly. They're just 4-8 in their last 12 SEC games. They really benefitted early from an SEC slate that was backloaded. Their first 4 SEC series were against the 4 worst teams in the conference (11-1 in those games).

The only series bigger than UF at UK is Arky at Vandy. The dores have a chance to turn things around at home.

SEC has only received 7 host 1 time..
vandy was worst hitting team pre SEC.. then they were best during SEC play. Now they have scored 11 runs total last 2 series combined.

When you catch teams makes all the difference usually.. I still dont think Ark. is all that great, compared to your normal Hogs. But caught AU & Vols early, & SC late. 8-1 in those games. If they play SC early & Vols/AU late.. they wouldnt sniff 8-1 vs those 3.

If season ended today, I'm looking at an SEC top four (in order) of:

Arkansas: SEC leader, excellent Q1 record
FLORIDA: SEC East leader, strong Q1 record
LSU: better away results than Vandy, better form
    Vandy: (just under LSU)
    ----------------------
I think these 4 are top 8 today, but I don't think any can afford to go 0-fer this weekend and may not be able to afford only winning once this weekend.

I'd also put Wake ahead of everybody (again, today) given they have the best Q1 record, best road record, and the best team in a strong conference.

With Kentucky, do they need a sweep? Since A&M joined the league, only one 17-win SEC team has qualified for a top 8 seed (LSU '14, 17-11 (better percentage than 18-12), RPI=12, and they lost Game 6 and Game 7 of their regional). Here are the other 17-win SEC teams since 2013 (bold=regional host):

2022: LSU (17-13, RPI = 26), lost Game 6 and Game 7 at Southern Miss
    2021: FLORIDA (17-13, RPI = 16), 2 and Q in home regional
2019: LSU (17-13, RPI = 19), lost Super Regional at home in 2 games to SWAC
2018: Carolina (17-13, RPI = 44), won Greenville regional, fell in 3 games @Arkansas in Super
2017: MSU (17-13, RPI = 28), rallied back from 0-1 to win USM regional, fell in 2 games @LSU in Super
2015: Arkansas (17-12, RPI = 21), 3-0 in Ok. State regional, hosted SR and beat Missouri State in 3 games, 0-2 in Omaha
2014: Vanderbilt (17-13, RPI = 4), won first NC, hosted SR along the way because #3 Stanford won {4} Indiana Regional
2013: Carolina (17-12, RPI = 13), lost in 3 games at UNC SR.

Technical RPI snubs (for top 8) since A&M joined the league:

    2014: Vandy 17-13 (4) - only 2 top 8 chosen from SEC
2015: TAMU 18-10 (5) - SECT championship helped boost FLORIDA ahead of TAMU in RPI
    2016: Ole Miss 18-12 (5) - 3rd best RPI, t6th best record
2017: Kentucky 19-11 (8) - 3-3 vs. FLORIDA and LSU (two top 8 seeds from SEC)
    2016: Carolina 20-9 (8) - 5th best RPI, 2nd best record

    https://www.boydsworld.com/baseball/rpi/rpi2017.html (just replace the year)

Boyd takes it back to 1997. I use the last May date for any given team to match with their selection RPI.
