Coach told us AR had the option to run on almost every play, if not every play. His failure to do so indicates his choice. We know AR checked out of plays numerous times and I don't remember more than a handful being checks into QB runs. I would bet some of those were designed QB runs that were checked out of though I can't prove it. We all see what you're doing, and what you've been doing, so it can stop now.
As it relates to the point that @okeechobee was trying to make it does. Not saying I agree with it. A kind & respectful gesture is a kind & respectful gesture, regardless of the intent.
Yeah, I just thought it was weird to use this story as an indictment of his psyche. I agree with you though.
“Saving orphans is cute and all, but it’s too much. Tebow shouldve spent less time saving orphans and spent more time in the NFL film room, saving orphans doesn’t make you an elite NFL QB.”
Tebow didn't have the performance/decision making issues on the field. But yeah, I would have grimaced if a story like this surfaced about Tim Tebow, because it's reads like a PR stunt. It was completely unnecessary and doesn't say anything about who he is as a football player. Even as a person, I'm suspicious of the story, because how many college kids do you know would just up and volunteer to stay all night to help the hired help finish their jobs and bus tables? Oh that's right, you don't know any, because that doesn't happen in real life. Kid could have a heart bigger than the size of Texas and he ain't staying to bus tables all night while his friends/teammates go out and have fun (like you're supposed to). It just feels awkward, like he is trying way too hard and probably was a PR stunt. In any case, it says zero about what he could mean to Florida or a pro franchise. They don't hand out Pro Bowl selections on how creative your PR stunt was.
"Well, Jim, he sucked as a player but damn if he didn't help those workers bus tables that one night after dinner. That deserves a statue right next to Tebow, Wuerffel and Spurrier if you ask me!!"
It's just like the pre-draft letter. Trying too hard to make people feel good about him instead of allowing his play to do the talking. That is a very big indicator into the fragility of his psyche and if we're being honest, we already knew his psyche is fragile, even without the letter or this story.
Maybe he had a job working in a restaurant one summer, maybe one of his parents, siblings, relatives etc worked at or own a restaurant, so he knows firsthand how tough the job is and wanted to help, maybe he was simply raised to help others. I don't think the motivation/intent matters. And wouldn't a PR stunt be him doing it in front of a bunch of cameras, and not after everyone left and when there was no one around? Just a weird reaction to have to a story like this.
Fragile psyche yet managed to reach the pinnacle of his profession and become a multimillionaire. Guess we need more people with fragile psyches in the world.
You say this like he was the one that put that out there and then fault him for a random act of kindness, which is just sad.
I always thought AR was a good kid, just a bit immature. it turns out he is a really great kid- but I still think he's a little immature. Which is why I thought he should have returned- but I'm well aware of the money involved in the NFL. I'm not arguing this again. I hope the NFL doesn't chew him up and spit him out like it does to so many. It probably depends on his organization. (The Jets would have been a disaster for AR, IMO.) Maybe the Colts will give him time and patience and he can mature there.
I agree, but I’m over it. Hopefully we continue to hear stories like this one. I’m good if he is remembered for adding to the Danny and Tim list of Gator QBs that are much more than just athletes.
“Random acts of kindness” generally involve helping out someone who is truly in need. In this case, there were multiple people there being paid to do the job he helped with. Let’s not act like he rescued an old lady from a burning house.
This reminds me a little of a story about LeBron James many years ago in the NBA pre-season in James rookie year. The Cavs were supposed to play in St John's Canada vs the raptors in October, but the game was canceled due to a slippery floor. Here is the result of a google search about the game. 'Messed up' match at Mile One: Raptors fan recalls 2003 Cleveland game canned by condensation | CBC News You can imagine what the NBA players felt as they got back on the bus to leave.. They were grousing and complaining. The equipment manager then went around collecting the uniforms from each player. You can imagine how that went... With one exception. James was sitting quietly with his uniform folded up neatly beside him on the seat. It really spoke well of James, and I think this speaks well of AR. This story per my memory of an SI article I read many years ago...
Every QB in the world has the option to run every play. When the passing play fails they either run or throw it away My point is Napier had far far more control over how much AR ran than you are implying. 1. He could have called more runs 2. He could have told AR one read then run It just seems odd that we are upset at a quarterback for going through his reads and…throwing. It’s not like AR was pulling a Chris Leak and avoiding contact. Sure it may not have been an optimal decision to throw deep into his reads but quarterbacks throw. If Napier wanted him to not go that deep into his reads he could have put an end to it. The reality is Napier doesn’t run a QB heavy run offense. I’m not saying that’s good or bad…it just is what it is
