I'm going to pass on totally worthless information. There are 306 division one softball teams. This year Gators beat #306 RPI rated Delaware St. 15 - 0 and #295 Bowling Green 10 - 7. Guess those games didn't help Florida's SOS much.
And if I am not mistaken, Tim and every other coach I know of, has an end of the season discussion with the player. While I have no proof other than a relatives word, I believe the message was delivered about playing time. Rember, Tim actually started #52 over Skylar at SS for a while in the early part of the year. #52 was going to start somewhere no matter what. By the way, I wish #52 a long and successful life and thank you for your efforts here. I do not hate her, I just think we had 6 options better than her as a full time player. She seems like a very nice person.
Not disputing she has been poor offensively. And if Cotrill had stayed don’t think you ever would have seen her with any substantial playing time behind the plate or anywhere else for that matter.
Decker would have been a boost at catcher if she had stayed, IMO. Just sheer experience at the position, plus the offensive comparisons aren't even close. But, water under the bridge. This off season and next year will be very telling about the future of the program.
I compare this years softball team to last year's baseball team. Baseball team had a 636 winning % and got bounced on the road in regional. This year they are playing great and almost certainly will be a national seed. I expect the softball team to follow suit. Go Gators.
2013 .145 2014. .285 2015. .225 2016. .283 8 career homes runs. Of course Munro was an elite defender.
Munro was a clutch hitter and probably the best defensive catcher ever. That's why she's continued to play with the best in the world since leaving UF.
D especially at Catcher. #52 is far away from being good, let alone elite. The good news is the bar is set low at catcher so almost anyone that comes in will be at least 50% better.
Florida plays Loyola Marymount Friday at 6 pm EST on ESPN+ in the Stanford Regional. #9 seed Stanford plays Long Beach State in the 2nd game of the night.
Loyola Marymount is not an automatic win. Their RPI is not good at 72 but they beat UCF 8 - 2, lost to KY 0-1, and lost to LSU 5 - 6. They are competitive.
