I wish her no personal ill will, but I absolutely do not hope it works out for them. They are the competition, and I hope they stink it up.

Yeah this one sucks in every way. Freaking LSU smh. I saw her comment “new opportunities” on one post.

This is a head-scratcher for me. I have no problem for her transferring for a grad year, but not in the conference.
I love Sav and Syd, but this does not set right. I had heard UCLA, and I would be okay with that. But, in conference doesn't ring right.

On the surface I tend to agree with everything you said. And no as ET alluded I didn’t confuse her with Megan Skaggs and don’t think you did either. With the possibility of losing our three franchise performers, Savannah would have been a major contributor at least on bars and vault. Head scratcher.

Disagree on vault for Savannah, but time will tell.

Oragator1 alluded to Savannah being an all-arounder. She was never that with UF. Savannah did have a go at beam one season, but that wasn't successful. She was always better on bars than vault to boot.

Honestly, I don't see a big loss here with having no certainty as to what Savannah can do after 2 years on the sideline without performing. LSU has a lot of gymnasts. Savannah may not be able to break into any of LSU's lineups. I'd rather see UF develop its incoming new talent.

ET I appreciate your insight into the program. Basically all I know is what I see during the meets and what I read on here from you and some of the other knowledge posters.

I’d like to get your opinion on what we can expect next season with some of the defections to train for the 2024 Olympics. As I see it we had three franchise gymnasts this past season. Trinity graduates and Wong and DiCello take a leave of absence to train for the Olympics. And I realize Wong hasn’t announced yet. In my opinion after those three we had several good competitors but none that I would consider outstanding. We lose Baumann, Nguyen, Richards and Clapper.

On paper, Hurd and McCusker should have been two of our best. But Hurd has been plagued with injuries and may never reach her once lofty ability while McCusker seemed to finish strong this year and seems like she can play an important role next season.

So before you consider any new additions to the squad the only competitors I see returning that participated in meets were Blakely and Lazzari.

What is your take on where next years squad may end up nationally ranked. My guess is top ten but not top five unless we have more incoming talent than I know. Thanks.

Excellent, thought she was a grad transfer like Baumann. That’s an important piece of the puzzle.

As of May 15, 2023, it is way too early to predict the 2024 season.

Nguyen will be back. Payton Richards can come back if she wants to. McCusker is on an uptick and likely to add an event. Hurd could be a 3-event gymnast ruling out the bars due to her elbow injuries and surgeries. Ellie Lazzari is capable of performing all-around now that she has recovered from her Achilles heel injury. Clapper? Not once did she perform in 2023 on the beam which was her specialty. Does Lori Brubach make a sophomore jump? She looked good early on in her development stage.

Leanne Wong has not announced so that is looking good for UF. Jade Carey of Oregon State announced last week that she is returning to school. From mid-April to mid-June Paris 24 tryouts, there is 2 months to put together elite routines. Wong is already performing elite in the offseason.

The transfer portal doesn't close until 5/19 with decisions to be made at future dates. UF may or may not be in on anyone in the transfer portal. The follow up question is does UF have a ship for a transfer gymnast?

UF has a really good class coming in. A couple or three will likely help right away, see Ferris (5 stars/90 Points), Pilgrim (4 stars/71 Points), and Arana (4 stars/63 Points). Ferris and Pilgrim are weakest on the beam but can help on 3 events. Arana can help on 2 events, bars and beam.

Bottom line, there are too many unanswered questions to try to predict the 2024 season. I will say my opinion on this though, Savannah Schoenherr was not going to be 20% of UF's scoring and will not be 20% of LSU's scoring.

From College Gym News - Way Too Early Top 20:

Way Too Early 2024 Power Rankings: May Update - College Gym News

    #1 Plus the SEC:

    1. Oklahoma
    2. LSU
    5. Florida
    6. Alabama
    8. Kentucky
    12. Auburn
    13. Missouri
    18. Georgia
    20. Arkansas

CGN knows more about UF, and all of the other top teams, has the Gators at #5. By discussing it, I think they factored in Leanne Wong going elite full time through Paris 24. I think it's a good thing that Leanne has not yet announced, I like that she may be having doubts about leaving school which makes sense to me with the number of outstanding gymnasts trying to make the US 2024 Olympic team, Trinity Thomas and Kayla Dicello from UF alone. The #5 ranking has UF making it to nationals, but likely not making it to the finals.

Kentucky has a lot of firepower coming back. I wouldn't be surprised to see them finish a little bit higher.

GatorMade sent 16 UF scholarship athletes to Nike World Headquarters for professional development:

Florida Gators Football on Twitter: "This week, #GatorMade leads 16 scholar-athletes on a professional development trip to the Nike World Headquarters. #GoGators | #Jordan | #Nike https://t.co/ArOLBWIydz" / Twitter

    Owen Field on Twitter: " @morgihurd @victoriavn21 @leannewong03 @GatorsGym #GoGators #GatorNation" / Twitter

On the front row, you will see Leanne Wong, Morgan Hurd, and Victoria Nguyen. Hope this is good news for Leanne staying in school for 2023/24. The only way that picture could have been better is if Kayla DiCello had been with them.

It's been a week since Savannah Schoenherr announced her transfer to LSU. College Gym News still shows her as part of the transfer portal available list. Once the announcement is made, College Gym News usually moves the transfer to the list showing the school from and the school to. This has not happened yet. It could just be an internal administrative issue, but it is odd Schoenherr is still showing available.

Today, 5/19, is the last day for gymnasts to announce their intent to transfer. The transfer available list is short.
