Did I just hear Sully say in the post-game that Waldrep will start tomorrow? I had the radio going in the next room, but I believe he said he would start.
I am hoping all our pieces ( pitching and hitting) are coming together and will peak to get us to CWS
Jud Fabian an exemplary Defensive Center Fielder and... I must say current CF Robertson is very close behind.
Had to leave the game in the 5th inning with a nephew currently in the US that lives in Holland visiting and arriving at GNV. Got to listen and watch the rest of the game. Originally we thought we could see most of the game live but the rain delay screwed that up. Waldrep looked really sharp so it was a disappointment that the rains came. Sully made the right move I think to bring in Slater. Heard that Waldrep will start tomorrow with Cags in the pen, but if Cags is DH or 1B it might be hard to get him into the pen. And if Cags is DH and comes in to pitch do the Gators lose the DH and Cags becomes the pitcher and no longer DH? I know the rule going the other way but not this way. Kurland had one hell of a day. Fabian laid down a perfect bunt. For two days we have made Vandy look not very good and they are really a solid team. Was it us playing great or them playing poorly or a combination? A sweep tomorrow would be AWESOME!
I have to think about doing it this way. Both guys have had control issues so having either one take the mound in the middle of an inning with runners on might not be for the best and neither guy has been tested that way in relief. Probably Sully's plan is to have Cags come in to start a clean inning, but what if that doesn't pan out? He is like the last guy I would want to throw into the fire to put it out. That isn't what he does. Now which guy do you think can handle coming in relief better, especially with runners on? My gut reaction is Waldrep but not by a lot so having Cags start with Waldrep coming out of the pen is what I would do. And Waldrep has already burned a little gas today so I wouldn't expect more than a few innings out of him even if he is sharp. Not what I would want from a starter. And it doesn't screw with Cags staying as DH. But Sully makes the big bucks and doesn't ask my opinion and I won't second guess him after the fact. He has made some really gutsy moves like in the second Finals game against LSU where he went "all in" to win it. That tooks stones. Loved it at the time even if it failed. And he might have other reasons that I don't know about with handling the personalities of his players. Looking forward to seeing this game. Vandy might have to see two really good pitchers one from the right and one from the left before they get to our bullpen. In reality I think that either way can work.
I wanted to give a shout out to what I'll call the teenagers on this team. I don't know their ages but I appreciate the energy the younger guys have brought to this team late in the year. Players like.... Cade Kurland - seems to have made another adjustment and his swing is back Luke Heyman - his BA seems to keep on climbing and is filling up the DH spot Deric Fabian - where have you been all this season batting 333, what a turn around and very glad Sully is still willing to find improvements, my kind of coach Michael Robertson - might not be the best hitter but doing a great job covering lots of ground in CF
Yup, for sure. So impressive w 8 innings of bullpen work. Slater made it so Abner and Neely available today. That’s huge!!
Great post Matherly!!! Our youngn’s are pretty special. Kyle Petersen singing Mikey’s praises again yesterday.
Great first inning from Cags l know @74nole agrees with me about going right At hitter. Cags certainly did that.
