What you need to know about Newsom's plan to offset California's $31.5-billion deficit It seems tax revenues are down. Newsome had touted a $100 billion surplus last summer, quite a swing in 12 months.
I expect more from a Mod. California’s taxes are progressive and generated disproportionately off of the wealthy who have seen poor stock returns this year so they took losses and paid less in taxes than planned. Very sad for the rich. Additionally Cal had a tax extension to October from April due to winter storms and therefore they are guessing on part of it. Looks like they are reacting and adjusting spending, so.. seems kinda like normal government machinations. California's Gov. Newsom says state's budget deficit has grown to nearly $32 billion
Seemed light on framing up a point or argument to me. You need to run the swamp stairs for 15 as punishment or just ignore me. : )
I'll have to read this and analyze it for full context later. But under Jerry Brown and supermajoritarian Democratic legislature, California was the most fiscally responsible State out there, completely turning their fiscal situation. It was a long New Yorker piece, which of course I remember because it emphasized Brown's Jesuit training. It's probably searchable. I have to see what's supposedly changed now. Either way, I'm no fan of Newsom for a lot of other reasons. I hope he's not our standard bearer. Republicans are evil so he would obviously be a better alternative, but let's hope it's not him
The 2023-24 Budget: California's Fiscal Outlook I will add some more points of discussion for you. Booming Economy Has Led to High Inflation. Efforts to Tame Inflation Are Slowing the Economy. Inflation Pressures Remain, Raising Risk of a Recession. Economic Environment Creates Challenges for the Legislature Fiscal Outlook Revenues Balance Competing Risks Keep in mind that CA has to pass a balanced budget, so if revenues do not increase above current projections, they will have to cut spending. How's that?
I care about deficits almost all of the time. I did make an exception for the first covid bill because the government basically shut down the economy on purpose. There needed to be spending on unemployment, food supplies, and some corporate subsidies since they lost revenue through no fault of their own. I didn't like deficits when Reagan did them and don't like them now.
Clinton had a balanced budget. Oops, His treatment of women made me think he was a Republican for a second.
How many posts have you started complaining about deficits in red states or when Trump was president? I mean, you are already saying you gave Trump a pass on his yuge deficit ...
This is the problem when such a high percent of your income is based on highly volatile progressive income taxes. Unlike federal government you can’t just run deficits.
Governor Nuisance may have to adjust his one-man crusade on climate change. The governor said Friday he will help push a new “climate bond” ballot measure through the Legislature this year for voters to consider next year. But his new spending plan cuts $1 billion more in spending than the January proposal, for a total of $6.7 billion, mostly by clawing back $200 million in unallocated Middle Class Tax Refunds, $149.4 million in unused funds to help consumers with past-due utility bills during COVID and $280 million of unspent CalWORKS aid funds. This should be fun.
Wait until the reparations bill reaches his desk, and he can either run the state into financial oblivion or piss off the majority of his base.
I thought that bill was just some knuckleheads throwing shit against the wall. Is it an actual bill making it to his desk?
