Are you denying that it was conservative in 2008?

Repeal it, problem solved. The founders gave you a way to change it. If you cant, then it shouldnt be changed.

Every other conversation is a waste of time and effort.

Or just apply it as written, so you don't need to suppress pictures of young children with their faces blown off as an expression of the right

Just get rid of the amendment. There is no reason to have it in the 21st century. Then there will be nothing for all the 400+ JDs in Congress to argue over.

Can you provide a link for the partial repeal of the first amendment for defamation, libel and slander as an abridgement of free speech, or should they be disallowed since the 1A has no express free speech carve outs?

If the people will just let it happen, then they dont deserve what is written on paper.

Judges with lifetime appointments let it happen, not the voters.

And it takes a 2/3 vote from both houses of Congress, or from 75% of the states, to amend the constitution, so saying "just repeal the 2a" is naively pissing in the wind.

Yep. Just in case a tyrant takes over, you and your tank can save us from the full might of the US government. It’s not like they can stop a tank or group of civilians armed with pistols and AR-15s.

Tennessee’s constitution gives the legislature the right to regulate carry:
That the citizens of this state have a right to keep and to bear arms for their common defense; but the Legislature shall have power, by law, to regulate the wearing of arms with a view to prevent crime.

So, firearm regulation is not unconstitutional.

Just the opposite for me, actually. I want the same ability to nuance the 2A as we've done with speech, assembly, privacy, "unreasonable" searches & seizures, due process for forfeitures, etc.

None of that matters. If 2A was rewritten, then about 200 million Americans have rewritten it.

The voters elect officials that appoint Judges. Whose fault is it ultimately? The idiots that vote, people.

Same can be said with repealing amendments. I hear this alot like its impossible. If is impossible, then by the year 2500 when we have 200 amendments, at some point they will be contradictory or obsolete, just like 2A. You have to deal with them whether you deem it possible or not or the country will eventually cease to function.

The First Amendment is written in just as absolute terms with regard to free speech as the Second Amendment is with regard to gun rights. Yet, nobody here thinks our free speech rights are unlimited. Nobody believes I can stand on a public sidewalk outside your house with a bullhorn at 3 AM and repeatedly shout that you're a pedophile without facing legal consequences. Yet, under an absolute reading of the First Amendment, the government could do nothing to stop me.

Correct. The Founding Fathers were wary of a professional army following the Revolutionary Way.
