As it stands now, would seem to be a big step back from what Coach Shelton has spoiled us with. If they pull out a stellar season with this many losses from the roster it will be amazing
We hope to sign two possibly three come April. Things are falling in place as all the necessary parts are now available. This is a good start!
Jim, 13.42 UTR, high of 42 in juniors and 869 ATP, Kim, 13.25 UTR. high of 43 in juniors and 951 ATP, Couple of clones....they even kinda look alike
Both of these commits UTR rating would put them in the top twelve of freshman who came to college this season in 2023. Look for the possibility of one more.
Our University is finally getting infrastructure within the UAA ready so that we can compete with the top programs in D1. It's about time because we are currently TWO years behind many schools who dove right into the NIL when it first appeared on the college scene. These changes will have a positive effect on tennis as well as the other sports.
About time. Adapt to the times or die. I wonder how much of this can be attributed to a green-light given by the new school president? Coincidence or not hints by UAA employees that significant changes were being made to better compete with our rivals (read Miami, UGA, Bama, etc.) started on or about the time of change in UF Presidents.
The changes were in the mix and were bolstered by the bill our governor signed about a month ago. I have no idea whether President Sasse had anything to do with it but usually the university president does not dabble in UAA affairs.
The new legislation really helped eliminate some gray area. I think we all know UF tends to go conservative when there is a question on if something is legal/legit or not. The decks were cleared for more action.
This addition of a mature older player is exactly what the Florida Men's team needs, as Johnson has won against good competition at Florida Gulf Coast and as a graduate transfer will fit right in because he is a Floridian. There will be more news coming.
Great pick up. Not sure he's a true #1, but certainly will help in the top half of the order which was deperately needed ala Nefve this past season.
Jim, Kim and Johnson are joining the squad - who all are returning and departing from this year's team?
Nefve (#1), Grant (#2), Greif (#4) gone. Grant could use his covid year but participated in senior day and appears gone. Braswell (#3) will be a soph, Bonetto (#5) will be a jr, Nirundorn (#6) will be a soph. Orlikowski played a decent amount and will be a soph. Borgala missed most of his freshman year with injury. Tokac was playing 4/5 a lot early, but played less as the season went on. Coach Hoc seemed to suggest not everyone would be back, Tokac would be the easy guess. Seemed to struggle with the demands. Shame because he seemed talented
The coaching staff is recruiting full speed presently so expect another addition or more probably for spring semester. The squad will have seven players in the fall unless something exceptional comes along. Coach Steinberg is a great recruiter with multiple connections throughout the tennis world.
