I'll disagree on that take, and I'm firmly on the side of LGBT rights. People are born a certain race. If someone makes a transition that's a choice, even if I'm fine with it. There is more nuance in this discussion than race.

I dunno, maybe because the kids and their families are good people who just want to live their lives without being shamed, legislated against, or live in daily fear of violence from intolerable bigots because of their own lifestyle choice.

Why is it that all the transgenders that cons (don't) know are considered groomers, pedos and evil? You and others bark from the sidelines without having any real world experience with anyone close to you, so spare me the "narrow focus" nonsense.

Who is 'encouraging' it? This is a hand that parents are dealt, and they are all trying to do the best for their kids, in navigating something very difficult. Again, the family I know made no rash decisions, and have been seeking advice from the best doctors available, as they have the resources to do so. It's just a very naive assumption on your part that parents treat this casually.

And B.S. Yes it is 100% shaming. But you don't give a crap bc it's not your kid, just some "weirdo" that you read about and their existence makes you uncomfortable. If it were your kid, I'd bet as a loving parent you'd be doing everything in your power to help and protect the health and well-being of your child.

Good grief. None of this was an issue even a few years ago, and now it's the biggest threat to America since the Cuban Missile Crisis. Why can't the Grand Outrage Party just leave people the hell alone and let them be who they are. They're not hurting you, or your children. It's not that hard.

Except when the history of racism in the US is ever mentioned, then it becomes a Republican outrage.

That candidate needs to be taken behind a building castrated with a butter knife and his head lopped off with a dull ax. Give me a get out of jail free card and I’d do it with glee. We lost 40mm people removing sub humans like that; never thought we’d have to do it again. My southern ancestries is an embarrassment and they sh
The only choice protectected by our constitution is your religous beliefs. People change those all the time. Your beliefs do not supersede how a person was born. We went down this choice road with gays and lesbians; are you able to choose loving and being sexually attracted to the other sex on a whim; now it’s being used against people who do not feel nor cognitively identify with their biological gender. The brain is a major sex organ; given that; the parts between your legs is only half the story. Just research ED; 70% of cases are mental. Transgendered people were born with a discrepancy between these two things. They are not making a choice; they are a girl even if their shell says otherwise. Even if it was a choice; what makes your decision to be a Muslim, Christian or believer in Odin; leprechauns; a belief with zero proof; more valid than what a person KNOWs, and can be identified within their psyche. Humans lack of comprehension regarding intangibles is a real fault in our logical processor. If you are religous and believe in souls and re-incarnation; do souls have gender. I would suspect not. I’m more on the side that we carry memories past by many generations inside our DNA and is often accessed. A strand of DNA can hold 215 Petabytes of data. The library of Congress takes up 15 terabytes; a fraction of the storage we carry around in something we cant even see with naked eye. How far fetched is it that past memories from grandmas, mothers and great, great, greets grandmothers have more influence in a boy than the fraternal side from both parents. Hell; men are half female to begin with. Adam and Eve got that backward; it wasn’t a rib given to eve but a chromosome given by eve to Adam. Eve came first if you believe in such non-sense. Study after study has shown decendenants of major traumatic events carry that trauma 100s of years later. Andersonville and the Desendants of the holocaust have been studied at length.

I wasn't trying to imply it was a choice to be trans. I'm sure, similar to homosexuality that it is mostly something you are born with, and small percentage later develop it due to traumatic circumstances. I was saying it's different from race because you have a "choice" in how you acknowledge your trans feelings. Some may bury it. Some may partially transition. Some may fully transition. That's how I was differentiating it from race. It's a choice in how you choose to live with it. Race is race, unless you're Michael Jackson.

Republicans are overplaying their hand, as usual. It will play great to a lot of their base, but I’ve posted it before, the overall American view on transgenderism is far more complicated than “trannies bad”.
Good poll series here on it.
Americans' Complex Views on Gender Identity and Transgender Issues

But the larger problem for republicans is this…their biggest problem is that their base is aging and they can’t refill it with younger voters. This will only drive them away further and make their national map that much harder.

I will say on the flip side, the Dems aren’t doing much better. If the republicans are behind the national view, the Dems are way out in front of it. 58 percent want athletes to compete in their birth gender, but Biden literally made that a first day priority to allow competition in their new gender. By almost 2-1 Americans are against surgery for minors, and a decent majority are against puberty blockers.

Transgender issues in schools and states: New poll shows how Americans feel

But middle ground and honest discussion isn’t what this country does, so here we are.

I am worried about both issues.
And both issues may be directly related.

We shouldn't make decisions about people's rights based on what's popular. Kudos to the Democrats for standing up for what's right. 60+% of Americans opposed the Freedom Riders. Thankfully, people had the courage to tell that majority to stop being pathetic and do the right thing.

This is exactly why the Dems aren’t winning this debate. Those things aren’t comparable. Gender isn’t an artificial contrast like race is. It is central to the biology of our species with definable differences and an entire multi millennial culture, across all counties, built around protecting and giving women safe spaces from men, for good reason. Not out of fear or hatred like race, but for actual good reasons in many cases.
And a right is only a right as long as it doesn’t infringe on someone else’s. So if cis women are disenfranchised in sports for instance, then it isn't a clear cut right.

Until the Dems realize that and stop trying to force a solution that worked for more straight forward civil rights battles, they aren’t going to advance their case much further than it is now.
    Jmo.

Gender, like race, is a social construct. You talk about protecting and giving women safe spaces. That was also used to justify segregation. It was about protecting white women and children from Black "brutes." I could also easily point to the gay rights movement. It too was very unpopular until it wasn't. And while there's still a minority of our population on the wrong side of that issue, most people have come around and realized the opposition back then was in the wrong. Much of what we're seeing today with the anti-trans movement is 100% driven by fear, ignorance, or hatred.

You could say the same thing about race-segregated sports. But I readily admit that competitive balance is a legitimate consideration with trans folks, and we should leave it to the sports leagues to figure it out. What I'm much more focused on are the laws stripping transgender people of their access to healthcare.

Nah. Keep fighting for what's right. The old bigots will die out. More people will have experiences with trans folks, leading to less ignorance, fear, and hatred. And eventually, justice will prevail. The majority of Americans aren't evil, hateful people.

Trans is just a social construct.
