Article by Jeff Borzello, ESPN Staff Writter. NCAA to start one-year sit out for two time transfers except in cases for issues related to mental health, physical well being, discrimination and learning disabilities. It's at the end of an article about the MAC player of the year entering the portal again. It doesn't appear uo eliminate NIL shopping but it could thwart the most egregious shoppers.
This is already in effect. Fudge probably would have had to sit out a year. Bonham might have to. The rule doesn’t apply to grad transfers, which is why Glover is immediately eligible at BYU.
Unfortunately kids can call anything a mental health or physical well-being problem these days. "I didn't like my coach, he caused me mental stress and anguish..." etc...
players should be allowed to leave without sitting if their coach leaves, although I am skeptical when a coach leaves for greener pastures and he takes his top players with him
Billy would have been prevented from bringing his star OG and RB to UF if that had been in place. I like the sit out a year for second transfer rule. I would even apply that to grad transfers. Don’t want a revolving door at these programs with thousands entering the portal each year. Don’t believe any program should be able to offer any type of NIL enducement until after a player is enrolled and on campus. Should be illegal to discuss with any HS athlete or to those in the portal.
See Justin Fields and OSU. If you have the means, you get what you want. All I see is the blue bloods not liking the Great Unwashed getting into their country club.
Sure would like a full public disclosure of who pays how much and what the name image and likeness was used for.
