I am shocked that things are that cheap in Cupertino & PA....I'da guessed double that. Fort Collins median > Miami....I guess some folks still value freedom, great education & beauty.

TALLAHASSEE — Floridians who are Black, gay, transgender or immigrants have accused Gov. Ron DeSantis and the Legislature of targeting them in policies and bills this year.

Now, many Chinese Americans say they feel discriminated against by a DeSantis priority bill that would prohibit people “domiciled” in China from owning property or land in the state if they’re not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

SB 264 would limit land purchases near military bases and critical infrastructure from residents of a handful of foreign adversaries, including Russia, Iran, North Korea and Venezuela.

Only Chinese citizens would be prohibited from owning land — or homes — anywhere in the state.

I am assuming that none of Trump’s properties are near “critical infrastructure”, given their heavy Russian ownership. Of course, doesn’t prevent Russia from owning the owner of the land. But it looks like it only applies to new purchases.

Can’t cut and paste because so many paragraphs, but money for migrant flights, legal fees for Covid litigation so the “Governor can speak his mind” and a lot of money for remaking education with conservative ideals, including recruiting ideologically aligned faculty for New College and the Hamilton Institute for American ideals (something like that), which will undoubtedly be based on false history.

But this was most noteworthy.


Republican leaders have justified the spending by pointing to the state’s booming sales tax revenues. They are required to pass a balanced budget, so if the revenue is there, they can spend it. The state has also been helped by billions of federal dollars from the Biden administration.

“People say we’re spending money left and right,” said Sen. Debbie Mayfield, R-Melbourne. “But our economy is growing and we have the money to spend, and we’re spending it all in the right places.”


Glad the Times mentioned the federal dollars, which they try to avoid admitting. Found this number for the prior year.


Collectively, 33.6% of Florida’s budget for the 2022 fiscal year came from federal funds. The state also has a reported $20 billion surplus, according to state officials.

We have all this excess money but we can't actually help people by expanding Medicaid.

Also, I thought conservatives were supposed to be about lowering taxes. Every time I go to Florida (which is a lot) it's insane how much I pay in hotel and rental car taxes. If they have all this excess tax revenue, why not consider tax cuts?
