Maybe. But there’s not really any secrets nowadays. And we didn’t hear much. Maybe McCall, but even that didn’t have much smoke.
Nobody should’ve questioned ARs effort, either. But people had narratives to push and scapegoats to create for why a mediocre team performed so mediocrely, so they did.
I try not to get wrapped up in this Skink/OBcoop and the world battle but I tend to agree with Skink. I don’t think AR is a bad guy by any means and I wish him all the best in the NFL. BUT….There were a lot of plays where AR had the ability to do something to gain that 1st down or whatever. A bunch of games he never ran until the game was behind us and then in the 4th Qtr he made some runs which ultimately boosted his stats. If he makes those runs in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd Qtr to prolong a drive, we probably win those games. He didn’t though and that’s where there is animosity towards him and saying he didn’t give his all. Without going back and watching all the games, that’s what I remember.
The animosity and blame AR gets for last season is pretty amusing. I mean not only is he accused of not playing hard enough (aka quitting), there have been many on here who solely blame him for losing to teams they feel we shouldn’t have lost to (as if we were world-beaters ourselves). Usually I’ve seen past Gator QBs get the “his supporting cast, WR, OL, coaches etc failed him” narrative, and even the patented “it was a team loss, don’t pin it on one player” to excuse their losses…but for some strange reason in ARs case, the majority of the blame falls on a single player. It’s very interesting to see.
Wrong. If you look at the majority of QBs in the league, or in college…they accept the responsibilities of not getting the win. It comes with the territory. Now I get that our D sucks but our QB didn’t do enough to win the games either. Our D sucked under Trask as well but that dude balled out. For all the great things AR did for us, he had opposites as well. Did he even complete a pass in the 2nd half of the FSU game?
Replace AR with Bryce Young or CJ Stroud vs Vandy and UK, and the Gators still lose those games. Conversely, if you put AR on Ohio State or Alabama last season, he would easily lead his team to wins over Vandy and UK. What does that tell you? The problems stemmed much deeper than QB last season, but AR is the convenient scapegoat and the “distracted QB focused on NFL riches and not playing hard” narrative was too juicy for some fans to not gobble up. Will be interesting to see what narrative gets spun when the team loses several games this upcoming season.
Trask had two first round receivers. How many did AR have? Shorter was the one receiver drafted in the late rounds.
These are the kinds of facts some fans conveniently leave out when they praise Trask for "balling out" leading us to wins, while blaming AR for underperforming and leading us to losses.
That tells me you didn't actually watch the games. Treon Harris, Austin Appleby, or Malik Zaire could have beat UK in that game. The whole team, except for AR, played well enough to win.
Are those QBs bringing the same rosters/coach they had in the respective years they played at UF, or are they simply replacing AR on the 2022 team? If it's the former, then yes I agree they'd beat UK and Vandy. If the latter, hell no.
What are you even talking about? Sub pretty much any QB from any era for AR in the Kentucky game, and Florida wins easily. AR's performance against Kentucky this year was one of the worst performances I've ever seen from any QB at any level. It was Treon Harris/Skyler Mornhinweg bad. If you can't/won't see that, I think you need your eyes/brain checked.
More delusional arrogance by entitled Gator fans stuck in the past who believed the 2022 team was good enough to beat any team on their schedule "easily." Hopefully 2022 was a humbling experience for some fans and they can learn to temper their expectations and not blame the QB when an average team loses to other average teams.
Delusional arrogance is a pretty harsh term to describe any Gator fan who thinks we would have beaten Kentucky with better QB play. Most of us arrogant, entitled Gator fans like AR and are hopeful he has a great career in the NFL. But that doesn’t mean we are blinded. I think it is you who are failing to face reality. Our team was not good enough to beat most SEC caliber teams last year without good, consistent QB play and for whatever reason AR just wasn’t able to provide that in the Kentucky and Vanderbilt games.
Never seen anything like it. For some reason it seems some just don’t like him. Without him last year we win 4 games.
