Why do you think it was a rebuild? Legitimate question. Aside from people just saying it, why do you think it was a rebuild? Because Mullen had lost 4 games before he was fired? An average recruiting ranking of 10, a year removed from making the Orange Bowl (performance notwithstanding) and an SEC east title. Two of the previous four years had been 10-win seasons and the third was the 10-game SEC only season where they won eight of them. So why do you consider that a pretty close to full rebuild? Sanders is rebuilding here in Colorado. If Napier wanted an overahaul, that's on him, as are the consequences.
Our definition of idiots is different. I think it would be idiotic to stick with someone who, two seasons is, is proving they can't build a program. Sticking with them just because it looks better to the guy you'll then hire a year or two later -- while continuing to damage the reputation and prestige of the program, making it much harder then to hire a quality coach with options -- is the much stupider approach. Again, UF wins 8 or 9 this year. That's my prediction. Not predicting Napier's downfall or the program's collapse.
Muschamp, Mac and Mullen all fired. Can’t keep hiring and firing coaches if you want to attract a coach to UF. Has to be viewed as a destination job. unless you are willing to buy a top P5 coach with a proven track record of top 10 finishes, you have to be more patient. Look at LSU ladies basketball. They paid up for a top 5 coach, proven track record, attracts kids, wins the Championship and now all the top transfers in the country are going to LSU. You are pay up for quick turnaround or you have to be patient in the build.
8 to 9 winds is unrealistic expectations although it may happen. When your unrealistic expectations, don’t come true and you’re blaming it on Napier, you’re just wrong.
BN might be quite capable but if I was a kid that thought I had a chance at the NFl, I would be looking at Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, LSU, USC, just to name a few. He has a very tough road.
We have no choice but to stick with Napier. The hole is too deep. I wish we could have ended the ‘22 season with the arrow pointing up, but we could not, and the hole got deeper. The gap between the elite teams and UF is way too large. Firing him now will make it worse, especially if he’s replaced by essentially another clone like himself, Champ, or Mac. Sticking with him, even if he piles loss after loss, is bad as well but there is some hope there. If he can ever learn and adjust to this conference. But it’s going to be a slog. Recruiting will suffer because this program will lose any appeal it has left while the UGAs and Bamas of the world just get stronger. We played coaching carousel at the worst possible time/decade in college football, and we’re feeling the effects of it now.
Third year is valid to have some expectations. Win/loss is part of it but we can all see by that point the direction of the program. We should have players showing promise that came from hs and not portal fixes. We can also see where that fourth year of recruiting is taking us. Before three years are done is just way too early to expect a whole lot from where our program is coming from. Our last three coaches crashed and burned and it was painfully obvious. That could happen to zNapier too but there’s no reason to get anxious just yet. Way to early in this story to start worrying.
I didn’t ask for a W/L record, just when he would own and be accountability for whatever W/L record we have. Again, the blind loyalists won’t even say he’ll own it after 3 years!
This is Napiers second year, he at minimum owns some of the fact that this team is predicted to win 5.5 games.
He owns every bit of it from day one. Nobody is arguing that but you got to give them in time to bring in high school kids and let them mature to 2021 years old for them to be effective. No 18-year-old kid is going to help a kid win big football games, at least not an entire team full of them.
He’s owned the team since he was hired. It’s his team. Nobody on this thread is holding Napier directly accountable for anything so I’m still not sure what you really want. If you don’t think his boss is holding him accountable for this team and hasn’t been since day 1, I’m not sure what to tell you. What is it you need from the “blind loyalist”? You need them to admit he’s accountable? To who? You? To what end? What do you want? You want him held accountable for last year? And want what done exactly? You want him held accountable for something that hasn’t happened yet? You need them to admit there’s some possible way for him to get placed on the hot seat?
The guy is nonstop with his obsession over the hot seat for our coaches. I honestly don’t know how it’s been going on so long. At this point it’s straight up trolling
Interesting that Dan Mullen is going on year 2 out of coaching. Muschamp loved the game so much he jumped at chance to be a Coordinator. Mac needed to be coaching again as well. Mullen is fine taking a break, being an analyst and just cashing UF checks to not coach. Heart was not in the grind at the end and did not truly love what he did.
I think he loved it when he got off the plane chomping and those first couple of seasons when the team did ok. But once the pressure started building like it never has in Starkville the fun was over. And he clearly didn’t like recruiting. Neither did SOS, but he had a passion for the game and for his job like none other
Think about it, Muschamp, Mac and Mullen all had quick starts to begin their stint at UF only to fizzle. None were program builders. In fact, all were fired. Yet, some here seem unwilling to allow Nap time to build a program that has sustainability. If after 3 years if no improvement then he deserves some heat but give the man time.
