Can’t be. I’ve been told the “hypersonic” missile, the bane of civilian apartment complexes, can’t be intercepted by current technology. So that’s weird.

Justin Ling thinks the drone at the Kremlin was likely an internal assassination attempt

They, like me, did the quick math on the drone's possible range and concluded it cannot have come from Ukraine. “It was launched somewhere in Moscow,” they wrote. Anti-Putin agitators were more likely culprits than Ukrainian partisans, they wrote “but who knows.” Other opposition groups, while not taking responsibility, were inclined to think opposition groups had gotten the drones in the air. “This is just the beginning,” one promised.

Such an operation certainly fits in with the emerging doctrine of these opposition groups.

The actions taken to date have been about instilling fear, not hope. “One propagandist is killed, and everyone else is discussing how scared they are, asking for FSB protection,” they said, pointing to the assassination of Maxim Fomin a.k.a Vladlen Tatarsky, a pro-Kremlin milblogger who was killed by an exploding statuette in a St. Petersburg in April.

If it was, it wasn’t a very good one. My money remains on false flag due to the clownish incompetence of it.

I think the way in which it was carried out was meant to be seen, not actually effective.

I think the way it was carried out points directly to the Russian military.

He covers that and runs through all of his reasoning in the whole piece. But ultimately it's reasoned speculation

Maybe I’m biased because I just want to believe — perhaps falsely; hope springs eternal — that if the Russian authorities had actually had their fill of that [gentleman], then they would have been successful.

I don't know why everyone thinks it was an assanination attempt. It seemed pretty obvious to me it was intended to take out that flag (which it did) as a statement that "we can touch you!"

Makes sense. We are all speculating. If you read the piece, Ling’s speculation is based on his past and current reporting on incidents that appear to be related, sabotage against the system.

That's what I think. I think it was purely symbolic, targeted at the flag.

Bears repeating that no matter how powerful your military is, goat herders can get to you if they’re sufficiently determined …

Killing innocent civilians is something only goat herders would brag about. That day was the beginning of the end of the militant goat herders terrorist network, yes?

Well, they chased us out of Afghanistan twenty years later. So I’d guess that chattering of their demise were greatly exaggerated.

It might be more believable if he staged an attack on a building that he might have been in at the time.

I mentioned that in a previous post. Considering that it occurred in the middle of the night it seemed somewhat suspicious that that it was recorded with high resolution photos and videos.

    Interesting.

They also chased the Russians out, back when the Russians were actually scary...and back when their equipment was fresh and new.

Same old equipment, skeleton crew of the old Russian force, and they're getting their nuts served sunny side up to them, by their neighbors.

...who appear to be at least as determined as those 'goat herders'.

    So...your point is duly noted.

The real question is...have you noted it yourself?

Na man. That was a different goat herd. The real ugly ones have been neutered. The Taliban just happen to be easy targets for political fodder.

Thread, FWIW. Looks like the plan is to depopulate Crimea, but it in a slightly more humane way than the way the Russians depopulate areas through mass murder and kidnapping

Ukraine is getting way ahead of itself with this plan. They are not yet in position for a move to reconquer Crimea. But that said, yes, they would have to make sure that going forward there is not an overwhelming majority of ethnic Russians living there; otherwise, this just happens again and again. But, no, I don’t think Ukraine would have to take measures to depopulate Crimea of Russians. They will for the most part just leave on their own.
