Important point. GT lost the doubles point against UCF yesterday but rallied to win 4 singles matches. I think that will be much tougher to do against us.
Watching Gailis match on 4, she is down 1-4, but it's all unforced errors. IF she finds her range she will come back. GT player is just keeping the ball in play
Dudney first to wrap....nice day for her. Sara serving for her match at 5-4 Briggs serving to stay alive 4-5 and down a set Gailis cruises in her second set and quickly breaks to start 3 Emily blown out in her second set, but up 3-0 fast in 3rd Spee down a set but up 5-2 in 2nd UF in pretty good shape here, just avoid a collapse
Sara wins and Briggs loses.....3-1 UF Gailis up 2-0, Emily up 3-0, Spee wins her second set 6-2......need one of the 3rd sets
GT with deuce game wins on 4 and 5....3-2 and 4-2, Spee broken at love to go down 1-2 Tightening up fast
Emily is disintegrating on 4, was up 4-1 and it's 4-4 in a blink...she's looks done Spee loses 3 straight, 1-3 Gailis loses 2 straight for 3-3 That collapse I mentioned is occurring
Emily tried to give away her service game...2 double faults and no first serves, GT player gave it back with errors. 5-4 UF
GT with an easy hold for 5-5 on 5 Gailis finally gets a game for 4-3....it's probably on her now Spee 2-4
Gailis gets it to 5-3, this is the match GT boots an overhead for 0-30, 2 points away GT dumps a volley into the net, 4 match points Gailis only needs one, breaks at love for the match
2nd point of that final game showed me something.....GT ran her all over the court and she kept digging them out and throwing it back up until the missed overhead. Gutsy point
Coming into the year, who had the women going at least two rounds further than the men on their bingo card?
5 SEC womens teams advance, Auburn with the upset over Miami and UGA blanks FSU UF gets the honor of facing #1 UNC...don't get your hopes up Men's side....Okla St beats UF and then loses 4-0 to #14 Arizona. Emphasizes how pathetic that UF performance was. Kentucky got a big 4-3 scare from Northwestern and Miss St struggled with Mid Tenn St., feels like the SEC is a touch overrated this year.
Gallis' win yesterday was big. A loss would have required us to win on #5 or #6. Emily was playing a talented and more experienced opponent so the match would have likely come down to Spee needing to win at #6.
Agree. Emily was hanging like grim death, but I watched a lot of that match and she was going to struggle mightily in a tiebreak. Spee match was a wild card, every time I tuned in a different player was looking better
Spee has played well in most of the matches that went 3 sets. She lost in 3 sets to the #6's from Texas A&M (1-6) and UGA (5-7) but beat the #6's from Auburn (6-4), Miss State (6-4) and Arkansas (6-2) in 3 sets and was up 5-3 in the third set on the #6 from UK when that match ended. However, it looks like she was in a dogfight (3-4) with the GT #6 in the third set yesterday.
