I'll tell you what, if this happens I will oppose it. That's too far.

But right now, just another case of Trump talking shit.

Which is why I asked what happened to the Republican party.

This country could use some rational conservative input, but that's sadly missing from the equation

    In my head--- UF
Private university endowments. Not public. Harvard leads with $35billion.

    He’s spouting communist nonsense.

Just remember, DeSantis brags that he won the governship with barely 50% of the vote, but with 100% of the mandate of his mission. A vote for someone is a vote in favor of their published policies.

Do you not think he is serious? Or is it ok because you don’t think it will happen? I 100% think he would do it, if he could. I 100% think he would have overturned the election, if he could. He even said in the election case the constitution should be set aside to reinstate his presidency.

He isn’t talking shit. He is serious.

When Biden does dumb stuff, I call him out on it. I don’t give him a pass if it doesn’t get implemented. I think his college loan forgiveness proposal was awful. His original BBB proposal was a budget busting disaster. When he does dumb stuff I have no need to mention “but Republicans are worse”.

    Probably.

Binary choice. That's by no means an endorsement of everything he's done.

He didn't win re-election by barely 50% of the vote. :D

But to your point, I think it's fair to factor in the odds of effectuating policy desires you don't like. I would say the chances this actually happens is pretty slim.

If he actually implemented this, it would be more difficult to support him. But with him and the Democrats as my options... it's really a race to the bottom.

Trump said a lot of things he didn't actually do in his first administration. Call it what you will but the people around him held him in check for the most part and it made his presidency better.

    "If he could, he would."

But he can't. That's really the most important thing.

If Trump would have absolute authority as President with no checks, I'd probably just abstain from voting on the ballot altogether. I was able to do it in 2016 for Hillary, but I can't do it now knowing how bad this administration has been. It takes an awful lot for me to resort to this, I'm a big believer that you generally have to make a choice between the lesser of two evils. But there does come a point where both candidates are so pathetic, neither earned my vote and I just can't do it.

Trump with boundaries and checks: Good Republican President who says really stupid and ugly things.

Trump with no boundaries and checks: Complete loose cannon. Dangerous.

If Trump had absolute authority your vote wouldn’t matter. That’s kind of the point. When voters flirt with wanna be authoritarians long enough, sooner or later they get one, then it’s game over.

Even if Trump doesn’t succeed, he is putting up a road map for others, like a Desantis, who is much smarter and probably would be more effective at implementing self serving measures to amplify his survival.

There's certain lines you can't cross no matter what the other side is doing if we want to live together as one country.

I don't think DeSantis has crossed that line. Trump came awfully close on January 6th if he didn't already. And again, I'm not even talking about the speech he gave with the Capitol stormers. That was bad, but not nearly as bad as far as being Trump's fault as the media made it out to be. And democracy due to the Capitol stormers was never genuinely at risk. Our institutions are a lot stronger than a bunch of angry jackasses. What worried me more was the phone conversations and the pressuring of Pence to certify the ballots in his favor despite the tally. THAT is dangerous stuff and we should all recognize that as dangerous stuff. I don't care if you believe to your core that the election was stolen, you have to be able to prove it. Overturning election results on a gut feeling is just insanity. And we can't live in a country like that.

Trump will keep the European communist trash from enveloping our United States of America... The rest of you Democrats are free to join the communists in Europe.

And the rest can leave for Canada, where you will most certainly be a ward of the state.

Trump has clearly crossed the line on multiple occasions. As to Desantis, I was never a fan, but a year or two ago I had hoped that maybe his MAGA rhetoric was hype but he’d govern as a typical Republican. Since that point he has gone off the rails - the whole war with Disney, ridiculous culture war legislation, 6 week abortions, and even jumping on the antivax train. He just strikes me as an egotistical little wannabe tyrant.

Trump would welcome European communist trash if they paid Trump a compliment. He seemed to get along well with Kim Jung Un.

He seems very sketchy with his ego, that much is for sure... But I doubt that Kim Jung Un was getting any sort of secrete treatment from Trump... other than one message, freak with us and I will annihilate your little pathetic country. Words that no Democrat politician ever dared to relate to that little child molester.

So because it is anathema to you, you don’t think it will happen. 16 months ago trumps supporters tried to overturn a legal election he lost. The Republican Party is in a weird place right now. It seems like they are going to be choosing between two fascists. It boggles the mind that this is happening. What scares me is that 30 percent of the people are okay with this.

they never actually governed as fiscal conservatives, so now it’s all about culture wars and “owning the Libs”.

I didn’t say re-election , I said election, just to be clear. Other than that,I totally agree that our elections have become races to the bottom, and that is really sad.

Additionally, while I agree that Trump did not and does not do everything he screams about at populist rallies, DeSantis does do everything he screams about at populist rallies. The one thing we know about DeSantis is that he takes actions on things, the overwhelming amount of things which I am hotly against.

I’ll hold my nose and vote for Trump because of national security. Biden refuses to protect the border and now has drag queens acting as recruiters for the Navy. Plus anyone can see the economy is just terrible under this so called leadership.
