You’re wanting people to agree with you that there is some arbitrary w/l record that will put our coach on the hot seat. That is defeatist. Why is that the head space you want to be in? Why is that the head space you need everyone to be in? Billy has owned the team since he was hired. Who said he hasn’t? That doesn’t mean this isn’t a rebuild and we shouldn’t allow him some time to get his system up and operational, or that we should constantly be planning on his demise. You’re allowed to just be hopeful, and let the people running things worry about the hard stuff.
According to reports from people who have been at Gator Club meetings, Billy's been talking about the "mess" he inherited quite a bit.
You disagree that he inherited a mess? It’s his mess now, but that’s definitely what he inherited. Is there some quotes somewhere or are we taking the bits and pieces we want from a game of telephone?
No coach in his right mind would come here if we fired Napier after two years. Only a bunch of idiots would do that. I think it’s possible we only win 5 games but it could be 8.
Any coach who is not at a top 10 program would come here. Ludicrous to think they wouldn't. It's a job at a premier university with a stateful of talent, where even someone who supposedly sucked at recruiting consistently brought in to 10 classes. it's got a national brand and a national reputation, and even if we have a rough year again and make a change, there is enough history and good will to make the job attractive to any coach smart enough to deserve it. The way people who are such fans repeatedly trash this program is amazing. Some of you talk about us like we're Kansas.
Yes, I disagree he inherited a mess. We had a bunch of guys taken in the draft. We had a first-round quarterback. We didn't have a lot of off the field issues. We didn't have a lot of social media stupidity. We had a team that wasn't the team Napier wanted, but there was plenty of talent there. Just like when Spurrier took over a team on probation and facing NCAA allegations, but instead of making excuses, he thanked Galen for what he left behind. My reference point is from the paid boards, where people who went to the meetings are reporting on them. They are big Nape fans and aren't using those statements against him, because they agree with his description. But according to them, Napier's been quick to point out all the problems he took on when he took the job.
Pay 8 bucks for a month then. I’m not going to steal content from the paid boards, but if there’s anyone else here who’s a member of both, they can back it up.
is that a response? You don’t think it’s a good job? Or you do think it’s a great job but no one will take it? I’m confused as to your point beyond not liking what I said.
Firing Napier will do damage at this point and would create a situation where it would not be a top ten landing spot. No one wants to work for idiots.
It is going to take several years to turn this around. Lagway in year 2 is the most realistic timeframe for success. You get rid of a coach and you lose momentum and top recruiting class. What coach do you hire? Different system to learn, different S&C, and coaches that teach differently. What if the OL coach does not believe in zone blocking schemes? Then all the OL could potentially leave. Billy needs 5 years and stability.
It wasn’t a mess??? You can’t be serious. Either you just enjoy being the contrarian or you are absolutely clueless. Either way, your credibility to discuss anything about the program has really bottomed out after your contribution to this thread.
If I am not mistaken, this is a perfect, TRULY perfect, example of the "glass half empty/full" dichotomy. You have chosen "empty" whereas others prefer the other. Your choice. Um, how does it help you, mental health-wise, with a HC who has just completed Year 1 of a pretty-close-to full rebuild (and it was never sold any other way to the Grand Pooba's) with a LOT more ways to go? Do you have (or had) any small children? Have you ever been on a fairly long trip with them? Have you ever heard from them "are we there yet"?...more than once on that trip? Has it ever felt...less-than-helpful and mainly self absorbing, whether it is from a loved one or not? Did you understand their frustration but would prefer they not mimic a parrot? Somewhere in all this rambling there is a message.
I use an analogy about certain ideas and that is pointing a stub-nosed pistol at the moon, pulling the trigger and expecting the bullet to hit it. There are a LOT of things that can and will change the trajectory and so assuming it plausible that the "observer" believes it is kind of silly. Actually close to insulting their intelligence. Now let me just say that fans are rarely confused with rocket scientists (as a whole) but to presume it is what is a more common term: Strawman argument. If we recall basketball and the gyrations, there were a few fans who still wanted to "stay the course" with White after 7 years and a what plainly looked like a fairly low (to our expectations) ceiling. The more sober folks won out...eventually. I realize that basketball programs are not on the same level as football but still, I don't see blind loyalty and/or ostrich imitators. I see a calculation that was made, namely the main difference between what I see between Napier's approach and Brian Kelly. You seem more in the realm of another saying, "the grass is always greener on the other side." Results? understandable. Methods? Not yet IMO. One last phrase that too many believe, at least when you are staring at "the other side", "the end justifies the means." I believe this is the rationale of the Bama and UGa fans. Thanks but no thanks, if I get a vote. But to your point, IF Napier flames out...down the road...we will have a different AD to select the new coach.
In the last 20 years 10 different teams have won national championships. Only two of those teams are currently struggling Florida and Auburn. We should have never gotten in this mess in the first place. I don't have a clue if BN is the guy to bring us back but I sure hope he is.
ESPN Analytics has us favored in 8 games…McNeese, UTk, Charlotte, Vandy, USCe, Arky, Mizzou, and FSU. Two differing opinions for the Florida Gators 2023 football season
I don't think UF has ever fired a coach 2 years in, but at least 2 have been fired at less than 3 full years just during the last 25 years, so its not like its some otherworldly possibility. IMO, no coach should be fired at < 3 full years unless the coach does something egregious that would get anyone fired. I do think we will begin to hear some grumbling if UF has a third straight losing season whether anyone thinks its appropriate or not.
Agreed, but he's going to have to earn those 5 years by consistent growth both in on field performance and talent acquisition.
