You are usually better than this. But are you really trying to equate an entire constituency to a person in a county asking to have a book moved out of an elementary school?

It would be interesting to get the actual transcripts from school board and the people involved instead of headlines and having to try and figure out the real truth. Shoot I have not taken the time as it is not that big of an issue (it is being made an issue unnecessarily). But we do know Clemente’s son agreed with the decision. We know DeSantis felt it was done for attention and thought it was a joke. I assume Duval schools are more conservative? But maybe not. Duval is Jacksonville. So maybe there is some liberal in the school side? I don’t know.

What is clear to me is that this issue is nothing more than an attempt to bash DeSantis. Ignorantly. Sadly.

I was not referring to everyone that Ron DeSantis represents but rather than easily offended people to whom his current presidential campaign is targeted and those who support his ongoing campaign of censorship.

It is being portrayed that the books are not available anywhere when people compare it to nazi germany. That’s not the case and you know it.

Or my kids could check them out of the library. No one is forcing kids to check out books on slavery or sexual orientation.

I will defer to someone who actually lived through those times.

But do you agree that there are topics that are age appropriate?
If there are then why even have them available for kids that it’s determined are not of an appropriate age?

Sorry just because someone lived when Hitler was running amok doesn’t make them an authority on the matter unless they actually lived in Germany. ( Not including people who have studied it extensively btw).

So are you saying she’s wrong, or that you’re choosing to dismiss her opinion?

Of course, but age appropriate probably refers to the child’s reading ability and interest. I don’t know of many 3rd graders with an interest in reading “The Grapes of Wrath.” Here’s my honest take on it. I believe that there are books and topics that shouldn’t be in elementary schools, and I think many of those books and topics were put in the schools because of pressure to not offend anyone, which in my option is the policy of cowardice. However, many of those subjects and books could have been removed by using a different method.

The DOE could have asked the districts to review books that may contain offensive material, and to remove them. Those are things that have been done by schools for various reasons for decades before DeSantis ever took office. They didn’t need to make a spectacle out of it by passing laws that threaten prison time. DeSantis made a big show of how he was a warrior fighting against “Wokeness” showing how tough he was by forcing these books out, and demanding certain subjects not be taught.

    Snowflakes acting like snowflakes

The Florida School for the Deaf and Blind reported it removed several children’s picture books because they depicted families with same-sex parents, according to a report from the Florida Department of Education, obtained by the Florida Freedom to Read Project through a public records request.

One was “The Family Book” by bestselling children’s author Todd Parr, pulled because it says, “Some families have two moms or two dads.”

Critics brace for more book banning in Florida schools
