Coronavirus in the United States - news and thoughts

Unfortunately the people in charge not only locked down our schools but we still had shitty covid stats as a country. Congrats to you and the other (people) who still stand by their disastrous decisions.

 

If only the whole country had the covid stats California has we'd be looking pretty good.

 

Actually we would be better if we had FL's. Because FL's were almost identical to CA's and they had their schools open a full year before most of CA.

 

Seems that stance is the "approved maga, right-wing, anti-science line" as espoused in Gateway, Western, Info and other conspiracy based sources. SMH Any lie will suffice as long as it generates clicks. Pathetic

 

This chart has COVID Mortality by state, adjusted by age. We would have done better had we followed CA, and not FL. But would have really done best had we followed New England States' lead. 4 out of the top 6 are NE states (Vermont, Mass, Connecticut, and NH), with the other 2 being Hawaii and Hawaii. The worst states are Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas, W. Virginia, and Mississippi. Would be interesting to track these results with when schools opened back up. Of course, correlation does not always mean causation, but looking at the list, it certainly does look like red states fared much worse than blue states.

 

Except I'm not maga or right wing or anti-science. But don't let a good rant get in the way of facts.

 

Or we could have been like Texas, which also opened their schools early and had one of the worst age-adjusted death rates in the US, along with a lot of other red states.

 

I've posted the age adjusted stats ad nauseum. FL and CA are extremely close overall, but FL didn't shut down schools and businesses nearly as long, especially schools. But back to bashing FL

 

Or we could be like NY, who had one of the worst and kept schools closed. Good game.

 

Post them again and lets see which states did worst.

 

Actually NY has low death rates if you exclude the first couple of months of the pandemic, but you know that.

 

I do know that, in 2020, if NYC and NJ were countries, they’d have been the two hardest hit countries in the world.

Of course no one died of ‘Covid.’ Rather, they were killing people with ventilators in hospital and abandoning the frail elderly in nursing homes.

Here are the numbers again. In 2021, both New Jersey and New York did better than California and Florida. And yes, these are age adjusted figures. Same link as before. New York did poorly in 2020, but they were also hit hard and early.

 

Ifs and buts. And we have no idea how NY would’ve done since we can recreate history. But good effort!

 

Huh? We know exactly how NY did - a lot better than Florida.

 

“Gold standard.” In fairness, these are the same people who think Ladapo is a great surgeon general and didn’t manipulate data in any way.

 

Yeah, the 7 highest age-adjusted covid death rates are all red states. The 9 lowest age-adjusted death rates are all blue states.

 

Oh, ok. I can play that game. If you get rid of all the old people who died in Fl then FL did better. Is that how this works? Just omit data because if doesn’t fit the narrative?

 

Um no. That's why we look at age-adjusted data genius. And NY did better than Florida did.
