Along with an urgent concern for the effects climate change. Funny how they slip that in there.

I think as to the border what Biden was guilty of as a Democrat as campaigning on a more permissive platform which arguably may have increased the number of migrants. By the time he took office he had to abandon the rhetoric but some damage had already been done.

Well it's true that I generally do not like conservatives, but the things I support are generally supported by the candidates I vote for.

Nothing we have done on this side of the border has ever slowed down immigrants coming here, let alone stop them. It's not a pull that brings immigrants here. It's the push of war, famine, starvation, severe persecution, fear for the lives and livelihood, etc., that bring immigrants here. When those threats go away, the immigrants stop coming. It is why less and less Mexicans are coming, but more C. Americans and S. Americans are. Pre COVID, Mexico had their best economy in history. In contrast, war and famine are getting worse in most C. American countries, as well as Venezuela.

We had the chance of real border policy change with the Gang of 8. An expanded guest worker program with potential pathway to citizenship is the only logical answer. Trump spent billions on a wall, now mostly in disrepair, and they still come. And they will continue to come, regardless of what we do.

I just have a hard time thinking that dirt poor migrants from other countries were tuned into the US Presidential race to know Biden's immigration positions well enough to make life-changing decisions based on that specific knowledge.

Maybe many decided to take their chance once it was clear that the US administration was changing from a president that made no secret of his disdain for them and willingness to use inhumane practices as a deterrent. I also could see common knowledge existing in Latin American countries that Democrat presidents = greater chances of getting into the US. But it will always have more to do with what and where these people are escaping from than what US immigration policy is. Just my personal opinion.
