That was a joke in relation to Florida banning any ticket sales from anyone with a candian address. At least Tampa was man enough to just sell tickets to anyone.
Wow that’s ridiculous. I personally think they have a point - that was a lousy thing to pull down in Sunrise. But Tom Petty?
Florida stupidly bans Toronto fans from buying tickets, so the Toronto station puts a temporary ban on Floridian Tom Petty music with a caption "One Petty Ban Deserves Another". I think it's clever and funny!
Yep. With the Panthers attendance issues, I'm guessing they didn't want to give Toronto a chance for a home ice advantage, which I get. But it was a really stupid move and they deserved to get called out by Toronto.
Toronto being the maple leafs and having blue as their color is just dumb, city history or not. They deserve to lose just for that.
I agree it is clever and my response to it was a bit of a wind up, the Leaf fans will get tickets one way or another if they really want to go, it may cost more from secondary sales and after the game last night maybe the appetite to travel there has diminished!
Not that anyone cares on this site but the Canada flag with red maple leaf has only been around since 1965. Prior to that the flag was 100% different. ( basically the Union Jack) Also two of the original 6 teams ( Detroit and Montreal) had red as primary color. So back then it was not always marketing. It was be different from other teams.
There's actually a bigger reason. Top-level Toronto teams have historically had blue as the primary color, starting with the Toronto Argonauts going back to the 1800s. The pre-NHL Toronto Blue Shirts of the WHA had blue as their color. The original NHL team was just named "Toronto", but referred to be local press and fans as the Blue Shirts. They later became the Toronto Arenas and the logo was a blue "T". So I think it's more about history of the color blue representing the city of Toronto and the history of the Blue Shirts team that made the Maple Leafs keep blue as the primary color. There was a period of several years in between when they were the Toronto Saint Patricks and green was the dominant color.
That flag was primarily red too. But I was mostly joking about their colors, I knew the city’s history with the color in particular. of course right now I don’t have to make Leafs jokes, they are doing that work for me.
...for 24 hours. "Petty for petty". It's pretty clearly not a sleight to Tom Petty, just a play on his name--and if we're being honest, it's a tip of the hat to Tom Petty, in giving his name some free pub; if anything, it'll prompt folks to pull out their old Tom Petty records and give 'em a spin, just because his music was *banned*--for a day---by one radio station. That's marketing worth paying for.
Islanders fans chanted "We want Tampa" Regretted it. Rangers fans chanted "Igors better" Vasilevskiy then shut them down in 4 straight. Leafs fans chanted "we want Florida". .. and now what? Hockey fans in the NE should just shut up.

Won opening night tonight. The goalie filling in for Vazy looked a bit shaky. But there was also this: https://x.com/buccigross/status/1711810339212271880?s=61
