Your takes are often on the extreme side.
    Keep it up.

Our country is healthier when both liberals and conservatives have functional representation. Right now the party that is supposed to be representing conservatives is dysfunctional and seems intent on sliding further away from rational governance.

A small side note that is probably true.
I tell my son to emulate the best college shooters not the step back fadeaway NBA guys.

And the democrats are just fine? Hell, they are not planning on having a primary and no debates for Presidental candidates. This is functional to you?

Why would you think that is implied? A system where two parties have captured the electoral system by imposing their rules on the nomination process, making their material support conditional & necessary and creating the primary system from whole cloth isn't particularly functional, democratically speaking.

What makes you so sure the liberals aren’t equally as dysfunctional? Oh that’s right, that’s the party that owns the media and the messaging.
Get out of here with this.

You won’t be happy until everything is torn apart. Some things won’t change and probably shouldn’t.
    Unless you want another revolution.

All he said was "healthier" ... seems like dying of cancer slowly is a little healthier than also being on fire at the same time

Let’s have Phil speak for himself. It didn’t sound that way to me. We get a lot of this one sided hate and criticism.

Seems like things are being undone and torn apart without much input from me. Much of what I took for granted about America when I was younger is visibly and nakedly untrue the older I get. We're all just spectators here, as I said before, just hope the people flying the plane dont want to take everyone else with them.

I can agree with this. But your takes are often very critical of the history and traditions that make us US.
I tend to like a lot of our history, no reason to throw out the baby…
We have a lot of necessary evils that I’m ok with.

I'm not opposed to debates, but when, if ever, has a party organized primary debates when it had an incumbent in the White House seeking a second term?

Its fair to point out that Phil is very much not a liberal though so I think his opinions should give us a bit more pause.

Well.... With an approval in the 30's and a challenger that is polling in the high teens and another in high single digits, if there was ever a time, I would think it would be now!!

The difference is that you are placing yourself in that position when you aren't. People with those types of relationships with family often have strained relationships for one reason or another with multiple family members. You can't imagine a fully functioning, happy family when you think about divorce, as that is pretty rare.

I was trying to remember back because I read that no party has ever organized primary debates with an incumbent seeking a second term.

In terms of primary opposition, Bush 41 got 73% of the primary vote in 1992, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have debates despite Buchanan's push - Buchanan wound up with 23%. In terms of national popularity, Trump was in the high 30's to mid 40's in 2019. Yet the GOP didn't organize debates. Trump even says he's not going to debate this time even though he's not an incumbent (though I think he probably will).

Again. You guys are looking for a debate where there is not one.

I am on the more "liberal" side of this argument.

I’ve heard that point before about him. But he rarely pokes at the liberal side of topics. He’s usually critical of the republicans only.
    Maybe I missed it.

    Yes.

But I would point out that one cab bring a laptop on the road.
