DeS rep listed a bunch of anti-woke policies that DeS is taking credit for. None of them have anything to do with the criteria used in the rankings. Florida was low cost before DeS with a constitutional cap on tuition increases. Florida had bright futures and prepaid plans before DeS. What positive thing has DeS done to influence the rankings that he can take credit for?
Not screwing up being the best, while simultaneously helping the culture. Part of what I consider good in a politician is not being an obstacle to success and addressing problems. Looks like he got to have his cake and eat it too. Educational rankings are great, Florida universities are relatively affordable, and he made progress in the culture wars. That's without even getting into cutting taxes and having a budget surplus. When Democrats are clinging to "but housing prices" which is a product of people moving to Florida and demand to move to Florida, you know the guy's been a successful Governor.
he couldn't raise tuition without amending the constitution that limits increases and he couldn't eliminate bright futures or prepaid In areas where he has control, he is screwing up, it will just take time to manifest itself. his war on woke is beginning to have consequences as teacher shortages are growing rapidly in k - 12 as experienced teachers are leaving and top researchers/professors are no longer considering openings at florida universities or are leaving if you can believe college faculty here who monitor the profession through their professional organizations ps..SAT scores in Florida rank 45 out of 50 states. how is that doing great when you are in the bottom 10% of all states in a apples to apples measurement of high school education?
Cool. You're the one who complained that he hasn't done anything to address tuition rates despite tuition rates being affordable. Yeah, I think we're going to be waiting a while. #1 ranking speaks for itself. Ahh... So he deserves the blame for the SAT scores but not the credit for the #1 ranking? The policies "take time" to manifest when there are positive consequences, but I guess are effective immediately when there are negative consequences.
This post is impressive in its misunderstanding of the argument. The argument is that all of the terrible shit DeSantis and his cronies are doing is going to damage our great university system. The argument isn't that we have a bad system.
So honest question for those that want to give DeSantis credit for this ranking. I understand he has passed legislation to alter what is being taught. I don't really see how thay would affect the quality of the education, just the content. So outside of that has he done anything to improve the education system in Florida? Teacher pay? Funding? I don't follow thay stuff closely
i think you misunderstood something I posted. a large part of the number 1 ranking are things outside of his control. I have posted that 2x now, don't think posting it again will help
But he deserves the blame for the SAT scores? How exactly does this work? If some statistic in education improves/impresses, it's because his policies haven't been fully realized yet, but if some statistic in education deteriorates it's directly because of some policy you don't like. Doesn't sound like there's any way to disprove that DeSantis is bad for education. It sounds like the argument is the premise: "DeSantis is bad for education." And we're just supposed to accept the premise.
I wonder if Democrats ever get tired of the 'everything good that happens is a credit to us and everything bad is GOP's fault' schtick. I mean, I get the cheerleading to an extent, but even cheerleaders understand the other team scores sometimes. It's like full-on delusion mode and they just repeat the same schtick with every subject.
Nowhere did I say he deserved the blame for the SAT scores. They are provided as a metric by which our education system can be measured After 6 years, he has a chance to do something effective but he is too busy being antiwoke.
If this is just the first lap of the indy 500, I'll be lucky if my future children are still alive by the time the DeSantis policies kick in.
Just stating some facts: When DeSantis was elected Gov FL ranked 7th overall in education. Now we are 1st. Pretty solid.
This post is impressive in its misunderstanding of the fact that people on this board have talked about Florida's education system as being garbage in the present tense for sometime now.
Ots amazing. We have threads full of "Duh" Santis (derp) is destroying education blah blah blah... And we see Florida ranked number one and the narrative is suddenly that no one claimed he is destroying education?
