Jordan Dingle, from Penn, just went into the portal. He was the POY for the league. Chris Ledlum from Harvard is committed to Tennessee, I believe.
We have three spots available. Hardly think we were only considering two kids (Blue, Perry). Thomas announces 5/14 and portal is still open, so we have options.
We’ve already got 3-4 potential starters through the portal (probably only room for 3 to actually start, and only 1 of those a guard). We also got a guy who could potentially start at PG and two players returning who would likely start at the 2 and 3. So we already aren’t “whiffing” by any stretch. We certainly could use 1 more capable guard - esp that can run the point and handle pressure, but it’s always harder to give the last scholarships out (esp to high end transfers) when you can’t promise starting minutes. It would be a huge coup to add another player of that quality. Hopefully we do, but if we had to “resort to” one of the high school recruits that are possibilities it wouldn’t be worrisome, it might even be the better long term play if we get the right guy to bide his time for a year. If we dont add anybody to finish off the backcourt I’d be worried about the lack of depth, but I doubt that happens.
No thanks. Mugsy Bogues could post him up. He could really help with NIL though. A Lannister always pays his debts.
People keep repeating that on Twitter, but it comes from an article where he says Florida would take him if he reclassified in EITHER fall OR January. Guess it all depends on if he can finish this summer. Thomas has a pretty developed game (similar to Nembhard—careful with the ball, sees the floor well, patient getting his looks), but reclassifying and jumping into the middle of a season would make it hard to expect much from him. And then people keep mentioning a redshirt, which makes no sense. Why have him reclassify, bring him on in January, then sit him? It’s not football.
He would come in January, have a developmental semester (and summer), learn the system and be ready for the ‘23-24 rotation as basically a true freshman (but one who’s been in the program for 10 months). That’s exactly the plan.
Well it’s still probably an advantage to him to come in January, get that extra semester college level practices in and be more ready for fall 2024. Not really all that different from spring enrollees for football. It just gets them a leg up on players that enroll in summer or fall. But obviously you don’t expect a guy to enroll and immediately start seeing the floor in the middle of a season. That’s basically unheard of.
Jarnell Stokes did it, and I believe that he was kicking butt from day one. However, he was a man child at 17.
True, but with so few scholarships, there is a reason kids don’t redshirt in hoops. I would rather him show up in May and have a longer offseason, tbh. Not sure he would really develop that much during the season if he isn’t playing since all the attention is on game prep and recovery. If you have an extra scholarship available, though, it can’t hurt.

It’s just me, but after our experience the last couple of years, I just don’t have a good feel for getting another mid-major player.
