And that takes us back to my point about Florida being one of the most tax regressive states in the nation. The burden is placed on the poor but will eventually trickle up and the rich will be heading to a different state.
If you are the type of person who moves somewhere for taxes or government policy, you are definitely rich.
Well, if only the poor are paying for everything like you stated why come to FL? Makes zero sense. But par for the course for you.
Do you not understand what a regression tax is? I’m getting the impression it would be easier to ask what you do understand. “A regressive tax is a tax applied uniformly, taking a larger percentage of income from low-income earners than from middle- and high-income earners.” Regressive Tax: Definition and Types of Taxes That Are Regressive
Poor people (at least people that arent recent college grads or students if they count) don't usually move willingly, that costs money. Plenty of people move here that arent rich, but the type of people that move for tax purposes or because they like government policies are rich. If you can treat where you move like a cafeteria menu, you have the means to do so.
So weird. In the early 80s when I moved to FL, and Bob Graham was Gov. there were about 900-1,000 people/day moving to FL and it was considered bad due to environmental destruction and demand for urban services. Now, about the same number of people are moving to FL each day and it’s considered good? Meanwhile, the population has grown from ~ 10 million to 22 million in that span of time. I wish you all luck dealing with such growth. I guess the megaloposies planned for the forgotten coast will hold them for a while.
It wasn't that long ago that Florida was pretty much a purple state. Seems solidly red now but that could change. Don't think we will get a state income tax unless something drastic happens with tourist revenue in the state (bed taxes etc.) Comes down to what type of people are moving here. If they are ultra liberal then yes, we could go back to purple and get a democratic governor every so often. Not sure if that is the majority of the type of people that are moving here. Most of the school growth in Hillsborough is in the south part of the county with large, normal housing developments that are mostly Mom's for Liberty types.
DeSantis just won the Election by the largest amount ever so we shall see. Not a fan of a lot of what DeSantis has done lately but FL is definitely Red Governor wise until it's proven otherwise.
It has also gone red for the presidential elections as well (other than Obama and 1 of the Clinton elections). But they have been pretty close.
bury your head in the sand and think it’s only rich people coming to FL to make your argument seem plausible. Bold move Cotton…
Well then I must have seen it happen in a dream. Lol Many people of all incomes who are retired and some who come for work pick Florida because of no state income tax.
