I think most people accept that there is a process for kids and their development. And it deserves much more scrutiny the younger they are. So looking to side with caution on what to present a very young child makes perfect sense to the vast majority of people.

Now you we may agree or disagree on the stages and even what is happening in the world. But I see a clear push to desensitize and normalize abnormal behavior in youth. And that is problematic to me. Some of these books have no business being in an elementary school. Some we could argue either way. But let the locals handle it. At the end of the day these books are not being banned from a kid having no access. They might not be in an elementary school library. Or even a middle or high school. But they will almost surely be in the public library if they have any sort of recognition.

That is one disturbing post. You should probably seek some professional help.

Take your pick. Over 350 according to this piece.

As an update the books about Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente was reinstated as acceptable after an uproar over their banning.

That’s not what being obtuse means.

Now that's stubborn. Challenged on a word and STILL refusing to look up the actual defintion instead of the one you invented for it.
And you got "Bluked" for that...amazing.

Well, your first paragraph managed to be incredibly (and surprisingly) insightful.

    Your second paragraph...not so much.

Indeed, anytime there exists a collectively owned commons, few decisions will meet universal approval. I much prefer your solution of having local districts handle it to the state handing down universal edicts.

I do wonder if there is a hybrid approach where books on the shelf that receive complaints can be placed in a special rack, which requires parental approval. At this point, we can give a bit of power back to the parents while still allowing the district to suggest a level of censorship. Probably it’s a dumb idea, but maybe there is something useful there.

Yes the parents forced their elementary aged child to read from a book his older brother checked out from the high school library.

I have to ask why his older brother picked this particular book to check out, and why the parents forced the elementary aged child to read the passage in public? Is this responsible parenting? Why didn’t the parents teach their children to read only what they believe to be appropriate books?

The point the OP was driving at would have been much more powerful if the woman had spent her youth in Nazi Germany during the time period leading up to the world wars. The fact that she grew up in America...she doesn't have first-hand experience of what living in Nazi Germany was like.

On the contrary, I've met people who grew up in communist countries. One floated on a raft to escape Cuba. Another immigrated from China. Both heavily associate the democrats, especially those who would vote for Bernie Sanders, with the communism they were thankful to escape from in their former countries.

    Obtuse Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

    2
    a
: lacking sharpness or quickness of sensibility or intellect : INSENSITIVE, STUPID
He is too obtuse to take a hint.

    b
: difficult to comprehend : not clear or precise in thought or expression

You clearly are showing you are obtuse right now as you accuse someone of doing something they are not. While at the same time doing exactly what you said they are doing. Shoot and you keep digging...

I have nothing to disagree with here and honestly think that is the reality on the ground for the most part. Have some districts gone too far by using the state as an excuse. I think so. Shoot. DeSantis even called out Duval on the Clemente book. I have no clue if Duval had an agenda one way or the other. I would have suspected them to be somewhat conservative. But I do not get the feel that the state of Florida is trying to ban anything like the narrative that some are attempting to put forth. I could be wrong. But when we get away from The Young Turks and look at a local paper and what most consider a lean left news site in axios...

DeSantis calls Roberto Clemente book removal "a joke" (axios.com)

We see a completely different picture.

I agree with your thoughts on a solution!

She no doubt has more credibility on the subject than any of us having lived during that period. I don’t think you have to be a concentration camp survivor to say they existed.

I’m not going to argue with you about Sanders who is a socialist, not a communist. Had he been the nominee I definitely would have voted 3rd party. His following, known as the Justice Democrats, are mostly Green Party or socialist party voters. Not unlike the MAGA’s following Trump.

I believe I’m quite clear, precise, and to the point. If I weren’t I wouldn’t be taking up such a prominent place in you MAGA bot heads.

I know what the word means Skippy. I’m the one who explained it.

Now you need to know what this word means.

Even though the Clemente biography wasn't actually banned even the very fact that it was being considered for a ban says a lot about the attitude towards books that might offend the snowflakes of the right because they happen to address the issue of racism.
