That's great news. And AR's mother is getting her retirement plan in order, I'm sure she deserves it too.
$33Million for AR. Sort of slams the door on those who thought he needed one more year. Wish the guy well, hope he puts that in a place where the money will keep him comfortable for a very long time
The total value can be tricky as only thing guaranteed is their signing bonus. Congrats to all of them
AR's signing bonus, after agent and IRS, will leave him with about $11,000,000. Say he spends $1M on home, cars, parents, etc which will leave him $10,000,000 and if he puts it all in credit tenant net lease properties in FL he could earn $500,000 per year and retire. That is assuming he is paid the signing bonus when he signs as opposed over "time".
Right- what are the odds he invests it wisely? I honestly don't know and I'm not trying to guess. I hope he does. What I do know is that something like 70% of NBA and NFL players end up bankrupt in 2 years after retiring. And the list of those who have pissed away this kind of money is as long as my arm. (ESPN did a special?) I def thought AR could use another year. Why? He could make big money here with NIL. (Not 1st round money, but still over $1M.) Then come into the NFL much more ready and have a LONGER career. Which is where the big money is. Hurts just signed for $255M. Quick fact- 7 of the top 10 Qbs in the NFL last year were 4+ players in college. And the other 3 were prodigies- TL, Tua, Mahomes. And AR is no prodigy. So the evidence is clear- 4 year QBs do better in the NFL than 3 year Qbs. Longer career = more money. Like $100M more. Huge huge money. Obviously it doesn't matter now- but to say AR should have stayed 1 more year was not such a dumb statement. Once you look at the facts and the long term NFL money.
What would he have learned by coming back one more year than he couldn’t by being in the nfl? Where he can get around the clock instruction, development and coaching that he can’t in college. With his history of injury it would be a pretty big gamble. All it would have taken is another leg or knee thing and his stock crashes. A top 5 pick is a top 5 pick …you can’t get any higher.
He has life-changing, guaranteed money. The chances of him being a top-five pick and he played another year is very iffy. If he had another year like he had last year, he would probably drop out of the first and second round the kid made the obvious choice.
That’s clearly the case as far as football, but there’s also the chance that he was still just as bad last year, and he loses all that money.
Thank you Player. Very revealing stats about the money. To me it demonstrates what a crap business it is to be an NFL player. Sure - If you get drafted in the first 2 rounds, thats life changing money, that, if handled responsably, could be generational "IF" the investments are "good" and one has decent luck in certain markets: Stocks / bonds, real-estate, etc. BUTTT - how many players get that? Oh yeah, 64...............out of HOW MANY college players? .......... Thousands ......... Look at the other Gators outside of the first 2 rounds. At first glance it looks good, until the tax man cometh. Then mom, dad, sisteers, brothers, cousins, buddies, girlfriends, etc. etc. etc. Then you got the car, a house, luxury clothes, jewelery for the gal friends. Del Frisco's for the offensive or defensive linemen. All that shit add's up. For those that think a million bucks goes far in the NFL lifestyle, think again. Thats poor man money. The smart ones get a financial adviser, tell everyone outside of mom and dad to "kiss my a_z", rent or buy a modest home and vehicle and stay away from Ho's. But that is hardly the liefstyle of these young men whom are 1 year out of college with a nice little bankroll, facing an OCEAN of sharks that feed off that NFL contract. Then factor the average playing career into the equation - what is it these days? 4 years? 5?? And finally, on average, the NFL player leaves with........what? In five years, a permanant brain injury? premature arthritis? and god knows how many other aliments? Oh yeah, they leave broke to, with a broken body and all those sharks wanting to be your friend on signing day won't answer the phone upon retirement. It really is a crap way to make a living.
So if AR did the right thing by coming back, then why shouldn't all QBs always go pro... I mean- they all could get hurt. Just as an FYI- here are the top 10 QBs from last year per the NFL... 1) Mahomes- 3 year QB 2) Burrow- 4 years 3) Josh Allen- 4 years 4) Tua - 3 years 5) Hurts- 4 years 6) Herbert- 4 years 7) Cousins - 4 years 8 Geno Smith- 4 years 9) Tom Brady- 4 years 10) Trevor Lawrence- 3 years. It's amazing how many 4 year QBs are in the top 10. The only non 4 year guys are clear prodigies. I have to think that's not a coincidence. So to me- a data and numbers guy- that says to stay in school. Hurts, Herbert, and so many more could have gone pro after 3 years- but did not. And now they are making huge money. That is the counterargument. It's fine that AR decided what he did. Whatever. But there was an argument against it. And this is it.
Outside of Lawrence & Tua none of those QBs were projected as high as AR the year prior to leaving. Most of them not even close. And Lawrence & Tua declared the moment that they were eligible.
Warehouses are also a good option...like Cris Collinsworth did. Great investment, great source of cash-flow and depreciation.
Goes out the window for the initial contract, but long-term it's an open item....all TBD with the benefit of hindsight. This goes entirely out the window if he performs on the field. To be clear, if I was an AR insider....I would have advised him to declare and take the $, and bet on himself to kick ass. I just see the points Distant is making, too.
Right- as I said UNLESS YOU ARE A PRODIGY then the data shows that 4 year QBs outperform 3. Tua and TL are prodigies. AR is clearly not. And AR is not projected high because of his play- just his potential. To be clear I'm right with bike1014. If I was in AR's circle I'd probably tell him to go unless he go ridiculous money for NIL to stay. I'm just trying to provide perspective on being patient. As a bookend- I was big on Jachai Polite staying. WE had so many on here screaming at him to take the money and run. That didn't work out so well for Polite- he wasn't mentally ready for the NFL. Sometimes it's not all about the short term.
