    In at #10 - Florida

U.S. News & World Report’s 2023 Best States rankings, now in their fifth year, use more than 70 metrics and thousands of data points to capture how all 50 states serve their residents. The rankings focus on eight categories, including health care, education, crime and corrections, and natural environment.

For 2023, the 10 best states in the U.S. span every region of the country, but more than half are located in the West and Midwest, according to the analysis. Many of the top states perform especially well in categories such as economy, fiscal stability, infrastructure and opportunity.

These 10 states – including a new state in the No. 1 spot – rose above the rest. You can learn more about how states are assessed in the Best States methodology.

Florida #1 in education. I wonder what factors / data points they used to determine this ranking.

“while Florida finished No. 1 in education amid controversy over recent policies championed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential presidential hopeful.”

Automatically suspect if Florida is #1 in anything other than alligator attacks or fireworks injuries

Your bias is off the wall this morning.
Did you change to a more potent coffee or did you start drinking already?

Why does it have to be one or the other? Never dropped an espresso shot in an Irish coffee?

"Actually Florida is #1 in education."

Florida is #1 in higher education, but I assume the evaluation was made prior to DeSantis starting to drive the “wokeness” out of it. We’ll see where we are in the rankings in a couple of years.

#14 in PK-12 education, #1 in higher education.

I would have expected California to come in #1 in higher education. We were stoked about UF getting to #5 in public universities, but California has two in the top 5 and another 4 after that in the top ten.

Florida higher education has been best in the country the past couple of years. It won’t stay there for long if some of these new laws pass. And the uncertainty at the states flagship is certainly something to keep an eye on.

Exactly the point. Florida dramatically improved its educational system, turning us from one of the worst states to one of the best.

DeSantis sees this as the perfect opportunity to correct this trend by eliminating the infrastructure (through hand-outs to the wealthy for private school and taking from the public schools, to abolishing creative thinking and academic integrity.

And his cultists cheer him all along the path of his march to burn it all down.

Love to know how Montana is #37 in Crime & Corrections while New York is #11 ?
Or how New York and California are #49 and #50 respectively in Opportunity.
I guess you can't make it there (NY) after all?
