I guess if parents do not want their children to read books about the Holocaust or the history of racism in the US including slavery or do not want their children exposed to the existence of LGBT persons they should have that option. And once again what's inappropriate for elementary school children would be appropriate for older children. Although you apparently read it, it seems that you completely missed the message of this post.

Bad analogy. Not all books are being banned in schools while all alcohol is. What’s going on is like saying Bud Light must be banned in stores because it offended Kid Rock, but other beers are okay. Further there is no age appropriate alcohol in schools.
Not all drinks (or unhealthy drinks for that matter) are being banned in school, only alcoholic ones. Your analogy on the other hand is sheer nonsense because schools or children or anybody we deem incapable of informed consent have no part of that analogy.

There are situations where some parents aren’t always the most qualified to determine what their child needs. When it comes to a child’s health, education, or safety sometimes it’s better to consult a professional.
You see, jj, that's the problem. Parents saw what schools were teaching their kids during COVID. These "professionals" have lost their trust. So the question becomes "who do you trust more raising your kids?" You? Or some government bureaucrat?
I agree and fully understand the libertarian positions on what a government should and shouldn’t be. I think that their perspective deserves a seat at the table as an “honest broker”. Both major parties have contributed to the shitshow that is the current state of affairs in the US. Name the issue, both are at fault and neither has a solution. Healthcare? Both parties contributed to the current shitshow called Obamacare. Deficit/Debt? Neither has done a thing except print and spend. The list can go on but you get the point. I believe that the libertarian position of dismantling the overreach of the USG has to start with redefining what the government will and won’t do and reset spending to those levels.
Don’t you see the governor is taking away the rights of parents to make that decision? You can rail that the parents should have the right to make the decision as to what they want their child reading all you want, but it’s hypocritical to say that when the Governor, Florida Legislature, and the Moms for Liberty are making that decision for you that it’s okay. To your points what were they teaching during Covid that parents objected to? Further it was never the school’s responsibility to raise anyone’s kids, just to educate them. However parents have abrogated much of their responsibility to the schools so why should anyone be surprised? Yes parents should be allowed to determine what reading material is appropriate for their child, no one has any problem with that, and the state should have the responsibility to determine what’s in a course curriculum. The problem lies when some biddy hen from the Moms For Liberty, or the governor, wants to tell me that they’re making that decision for me.
No, he's not. Parents can provide kids with whatever books they want provided that they're not pornographic. Kids can take pretty much all of these books to school, yes even the Hank Aaron book. All this is about is instruction provided by the school and books available in school libraries. "The state should have the responsibility to determine what's in course curriculum, but the problem lies when the state determines what's in course curriculum."
Some books determined to be inappropriate are banned in school libraries, no one said they were banned at home. The curriculum is set in Florida by a Republican legislature and Governor. Your issue on curriculum is with them.
