Looks like it is not a right wing issue....Sort of bipartisan isn't it?

If the only mass shootings were done by immigrants in this country, you'd have a point. But immigrants, both documented and undocumented, generally commit less crime than citizens. And while I have posted this before about Trump's effect on undocumented immigrants from CATO, here's another report from the National Bureau of Economic Research. Same conclusion. Trump didn't slow down the entry of undocumented immigrants at all. If all the crap Trump tried to do didn't work, then nothing will.

This is 2009 - 2019. It's not just an immigrant issue. It's a gun issue. If other countries can do better, than so can we.

So you'd feel better about this event had the perp been a white evangelical with a big trump sticker on his vehicle? Those people are just as dead. Straw man.

GOP working hard now to pivot this to an illegal immigration story to get people to stop talking about assault weapons.

    How painfully predictable.

and the libbies working hard to ignore the fact that the gun was bought illegally, by someone who never should have been in the country, and all the laws in the world could not stop it.

Where did the illegal gun come from? Was it produced illegally? Or did it end up in the market when a legal owner sold it to somebody they shouldn't have sold it to or had it stolen, possibly due to lax storage?

What country do you think is largest source of illegal guns in the Western Hemisphere and why?

Exactly, I pointed out the possibility/probability that he might not be legal and might not legally posses the firearms early in the thread but nobody seemed to care.

Countries have major issues keeping out undocumented immigrants. Israel has a wall and hundreds, if not thousands breach it daily. It's not like laws have changed this. And again, Trump tried everything and accomplished nothing when it came to undocumented immigration. If laws don't work, we should be talking immigration.

As for gun control, look at the mass shooting statistics per country. Why can't do we have to be different? Why did crime and suicide decrease when Australia confiscated 650,000 guns? Why can't something like that help here?

Right, so since we can't do anything about guns, I guess we'll just stop people from drinking, or having mental illness, or being immigrants, or committing crimes. Sounds easy...

That’s because it’s meaningless when talking about how to prevent mass shootings and gun violence; the perpetrator’s legal status has nothing to do with the ease of anyone to acquire guns in this country except to show our laws are far too lax.

I agree a multiple-time deportee should probably be locked up (I would note this has been happening for decades and worked with investigators back in the 00s that dealt with people just like this guy) but his status here had nothing to do with the ease of obtaining and lack of tracking firearms in this country.

tick tock until the next one, today? tomorrow, next week? Safe bet it will be before May is over. The academic year winding down may prompt some ammosexual to slaughter some more people.

am quite sure the gun was not bought legally,. just a guess, and no law will stop this from happening again.

Two laws that could have stopped this from happening:

    1. Gun tracking such that we would know who put the gun into the illegal market in the first place.
    2. Liability (either civil or criminal or both) for any gun owner or seller found to have done so by the tracking.

There is a reason that it is a lot easier to buy an illegal gun than an illegal car. Plenty of cars are stolen, but they are either sent overseas or chopped because it is very hard to register a stolen car. Do the same thing for guns.

so if i break into a gun shop and steal weapons, is it the fault of the owner? what about guns smuggled accross the borders, is it the fault of people here? again, no pie in the sky ideas about gun control selling is going to work.

If you have inadequate security, yep. However, that isn't where illegal guns are coming from for the most part. The three biggest sources are straw purchases, illegal secondary market sales, and stolen guns from individual owners (often with lax storage).

And the flow of guns isn't coming from other countries to the US. Quite the opposite, in fact. You should research the "iron river."
