Wow, didn't look at this thread for a couple days and boy did it get spicy. Does Deion suck? I don't particularly care for him, but that can be said of many people. FWIW I skipped class quite often yet never once had it held against me as if I were the epitome of evil. Is it even remotely possible that he learned from that and would encourage his players not to do it? Is what he is doing uncouth? Yes, but it is a product of modern college football. Win now or we will find someone else to do it. Are the players students or pro's? Both, there is little difference compared to a 30 year old taking MBA courses while working full time job. If an individual wants to go to class and get their degree, that is entirely up to them. But what about the kids that don't find a new school? Oh well, welcome to adult. I didn't have a scholarship, somehow I managed to figure it out. Will it work? I find it funny that the people who hate him, and think you can't just build a team with transfers is mad that he is doing what he is doing. Why aren't you all thrilled he is going down a path of self destruction? Perhaps it's the fear that it will work, and the good old days of college football will be well and truly dead thanks to a jackass named Deion.
Can you clarify this? Because maybe I'm out of the loop, but I would have thought the best/most qualified for a position (scholarship in this instance) is who gets it was generally a more conservative school of thought. Where as "woke" would be everyone gets the same outcome regardless of merit.
18/85 = ~21%. Sounds absolutely plausible in a business setting. Hell I work for a company that hires +20% worth of their work force every year in Oct/Nov and lets them go in January. Deion was announced as head coach in early December, it is late April. Does ~5 months meet the requirement for a few? If not, when is he permitted to overturn the roster? Right before the season? As a player would you rather be pushed out in the spring or right before the season? Seems like right before the season would be even more detrimental for the player.
How dare you look at this rationally, don't you know Deion is a cancer upon society? Someone who was a fully formed college aged man who has had absolutely no growth since is now going to corrupt these college aged children?
Scolds NFL for not drafting more HBCU players after leaving a HBCU and taking all best players with him to non-HBCU school. Of course does not matter as NFL still drafting significant number of Black players from P5 schools. Deion himself complained, as did Ed Reed, about HBCU facilities and funding. The lack of funding obviously impacts player development.
NFL Announces Players Attending 2023 NFL HBCU Combine and Legacy Bowl | NFL Football Operations The NFL held a combine only for HBCU athletes. They apparently didn't see anyone of note worth taking.
He’s a year 1 coach anyways. Better have 3 and 4 star kids learn a new system over 1 and 2 star kids.
I disagree with your definition of “woke”. It’s not equal outcome for everyone, regardless of merit. It’s an equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, gender, class, sexual identity, etc. I feel like you gave us the far-right perspective of that terminology. Not trying to send this to Too Hot. Just wanted to acknowledge my reasoning for the “disagree” rating.
Good point, but I was referring to the overall lack of compassion for all these kids getting kicked to the curb. Clearly there are other ways to clean up your roster - Napier inherited mess too and sure didn’t throw away 2/3 of the team when he walked in the door. People here would have screamed about that with the poster you’re defending among the loudest. But for whatever reason, because it’s Deion Sanders it’s ok. Things that make you go hmmm..
I don't care enough about him one way or the other myself. He's not my favorite and I'm ok with people calling him out for some things. Some people here are a little out of line in their criticisms but I'll take exception with one of yours as well. Skipping a few classes isn't THE issue with Deion's academic legacy. Literally not going to class at all is. Accountability should be a major tenet as a coach or any leadership position. His 0.2 or whatever GPA he had has been well documented. Everyone knows about the Deion rule now. Of course shenanigans still get played and most all major college football teams are guilty of having an easy out academically for their students if they so choose including UF. That I agree. I don't have a problem if he flips the whole damn roster either. I am just leary of some of his methods which may be sensational and self promoting as always. End of the day I don't really care other than to say I hope he never sets foot at fsu because his celebrity and persona alone could do some damage.
Regardless of whether he is crazy or crazy like a fox or evil or just doing what's best for the kids or grandstanding or just telling the truth, one thing we do know, this is going to be one wild ride for his first year there, at least by the numbers: 56 transferring out since October. 63 total are gone from 2022. 20 2022 recruits at a 87 grade, just not that much higher ranking than those who left 7 early entries only going through spring practice 20 P5 transfers (couple already having walked away) You would have to think that a majority of the two deep for 2023 are composed of players who have only had a fall camp with him or are non-P5 JSU transfers. That's a lot of work to do in a short amount of time.
