Unfortunately as @ocalaman said-not our day - Final 7-2 om But we can hopefully win the series tomorrow On the other field of play Bottom of the 8th 11-7 Gators! As always-Go Gators!!!
Sadly I agree. I think all of us probably knew pitching was going to be a weakness going into this season but I doubt any of us thought it would be this bad. Pretty much put all our hopes in Delbrey emerging into a true ace which turns out was too big of an ask coming off offseason surgery.
Hosting a regional is still possible but looking less and less likely at this point. These amazing young ladies need to start playing yesterday with a win or go home mentality.
It's going to be tough ending the season on a high note, with FSU Wednesday then at Kentucky next weekend before the SEC tournament. We're 33-16, 9-11 in the SEC. Tomorrow is almost a must win, IMO.
I think every game is must win at this point imo. Can at least show some fire and win the series tomorrow.
Especially with our pitching issues, the rest of the team has to play better defense, run the bases better and get clutch hits every now and then. With pitching as weak as it is, other aspects of the game have to be executed at a very high level for us to have any chance to win against good teams.
I really believe the offense has the tools to put up the necessary runs against most opponents but they can’t just sit around waiting for something good to happen to get fired up imo. They need to have that fire coming into the game and be ready to attack on the first pitch in the first inning. The sometimes/often passive approach to hitting is something that’s bothered me for probably 4-5 years at this point.
For as long as Tim Walton has been HBC, he's insisted on the "Gator way" of hitting. Patience, working counts, drawing a lot of walks and hit batters and then delivering with key hits. OBP is a huge thing with him. It's frustrated me at times, too, over the years but I can't argue with the results he's delivered during his 18 years.
That will work when you have AAs in the circle and a defense to back it up. Far cry from that this season.
His 18 years of success speaks for itself and I understand the value of working the count, making the pitcher work/seeing more pitches and hopefully drawing a lot of free passes. I guess my issue is when the opposing pitcher has “it” and is consistently filling up the strike zone, watching good pitches go by and getting yourself in bad counts is advantage pitcher.
And hitters who can deliver with 2 strikes. It's happened some this year, but not with the regularity Gator teams have normally done.
It’s a good game plan and I like it BUT…As the saying goes the best laid war plans go to poop after the first bullet is fired or Mike Tyson punches you in the face. Too often imo that approach allows a pitcher in the zone to dictate the game. Swing early, get solid contact and rattle that pitcher. Change the narrative in your favor.
I really thought the Georgia series was a turning point for this team. Two outs two strikes so what. They have and can hit in the clutch. It’s almost like they forget their past accomplishments sometimes.
I think you have a tremendous amount of love and passion for Gator softball and probably all Gator athletics and the university as a whole. I will say that there is a big difference between constructive criticism, a good debate about lineups, who’s starting who isn’t, who made a good play who didn’t, base running errors, why’s coach making this decision or that and simple spiteful attacks on the players and program. I want to be very clear that I don’t think you are one of those spiteful people. Not by a long shot. What it comes down to is this isn’t just a forum for us fans to vent on, this is a forum for us to represent Gator Nation, show our knowledge and respect of the game, the players, the community and the university. If the friends and family of present players and the players themselves read whats written here isn’t enough to give you pause before you press send then think about this. If you were a potential portal transfer or an incoming recruit or the family of either how do you think they would interpret some of what’s said here. Healthy debate by all means but put your best foot forward and represent the university well. Go Gators!
I'm not sure what you are insinuating I did, but I will tell you this, I have been a Gator fan for over 60 years. This is a message board to discuss Gator sports, the good as well as the bad.
