My wife and I met in March of 1975. We were engaged in 2 weeks, married that September. It's great, isn't it?

Very similar to our courtship. Met October1972, 1st date Oct 17, proposed January 17th 1973 Married March 17, 1973. We call 17 our lucky number.
Guess we both hit the lottery, ocalaman.

Jan and I met at Chipola in the fall of 1972–I played basketball and baseball and she was one of our cheerleaders.

We graduated and transferred to FSU in 1973 and got married that September 08th. She followed me around the state with three duty stations on the FHP for 31 years.

I’ve always felt like I won the lottery too. As my ol’buddy @wingtee once told me “Damn, Bill—you outkicked your coverage!” I agree!

Used up the last of the turkey meatballs for pizza last night, along with onion & black olives. Tossed salad on the side. My wife went with salad as a meal, with boring baked chicken breast on the side.

Tonight, with the crappy cool weather, I needed a project… so gumbo it is. Shrimp, andouille and chicken. The roux has already been handled this morning, veggies cut/diced, meat prepared and portioned properly… now ready to settle in for the game …and will pick up the cooking again around 3.

Jalapeño cheese cornbread on the side. Just waiting for what kind of salad my wife requests …then good to go.

An old friend has moved back to Gainesville and is looking for a place for his elderly mother. We are having them over for dinner. My wife suggested mahi-mahi with the brown sugar and soy glaze, sauteed asperagus, salad and lime-cilantro rice.

2 lbs of turkey, 1.5 lb. of sausage, cooked up in the skillet. 32 oz of chicken broth, 4.5 cups of water with Better than Buillion chicken, a bunch of seasonings, including cayenne and Slap Yo Mama, 5 stalks of celery. Bring to a boil, add 4 cups of jasmine rice and stir in the meat. Let simmer for an hour and eat for days. One of my favorite meals and we always freeze a gallon bag to eat down the road, with plenty of leftovers for the weekend. Yum.

Found a shaggy inkcap mushroom growing in my yard. From what I have read it is pretty early in the year to be seeing one. They are edible but I think that I will pass on it as it has passed its prime.

Alan’s grilling cheeseburgers for us tonight—we’re about 35 minutes out.

Looking forward to getting off the road and enjoying a col’beer or three with Alan on his mountain.

Just like a Hollywood story. Great for you both.

I first saw my wife at a Halloween party when I was in grad school and she was a sophmore living next door to my grad school friends that threw the party. I went to undergrad in Chicago and was used to partying starting around midnight so I was surprised that when I showed up the party was winding down.

I ran into her off and on for years and really liked her. We even went golfing together and played bridge with some mutual friends. Once I went to visit her over the summer. Over the years we just got closer and closer.

Kind of cool to be friends first. She is my best friend.

When I was younger I loved cycling in the Helen area in north Georgia. Every year there is a special ride called Six Gap. Lots of good climbs on it.

Brasshill Bald was only open for special events and they never let anyone go down it on a bicycle because it was too dangerous. Some of the gradients were 22%. I never got to do that climb.

Now western Carolina has some KILLER climbs.

We have been in "move out of dorm room hell" at Jax U with my youngest since yesterday. Drove back to ATL today, and McDonough thru Cobb did not disappoint. I thought the game was at 5 and had a whole menu for a taco bar on the Blackstone. Guess Ill take the run rule and we will play poker with all his buddies that came back this weekend.

Coming up on 24 this year with Mrs Nitro. Feels like 24 minutes........under water. :D:D:D:D:D:D

Pretty sure Scooterp is married to a rabbit. LOL. NTTIAWTT.

You’re not very far off. She’s never been big on food …and generally eats a salad with some kind of protein (usually chicken or fish) most nights, and maybe cheat a little here & there. But she had a thyroid issue that lingered for a few months until she was able to get it straightened out in Feb. She came out of that about 15 lbs over her playing weight and has just been determined to get it back down to normal. So yeah …we generally have 4-5 different kinds of lettuce in the fridge on any given day.

I want some good old fashioned BLTs.

    I got:

    Bacon
    Lettuce
    Mayo
    White bread
    Beefsteak Tomatoes

    Anything I'm missing?

    Extra bacon. LOL

I love BLTs. Eating them reminds me of being at my grandmothers house.

We are smoking rack Baby Backs at Alan’s on his BGE for this evening’s meal. He will also grill asparagus to go with.

Our other sides will be Ms. Jan’s homemade Mac’n’Cheese, barbecue baked beans, and deviled eggs.

A full complement of choices for adult beverages are on hand.

Breakfast for dinner tonight. I called an audible last night and went with biscuits instead of cornbread. Now I have leftover biscuits… so making some sawdust gravy with sausage …along with scrambled eggs, hash browns and cheese grits. Really healthy.

Wife will have a salad, with blackened tilapia.

May I ask for the gang's cornbread recipes?

Note - I don't like sugar and buttermilk.

    Fried Cornbread
1 cup of fine sifted corn meal
    1/3 cup of self-rising flour
    1/2 teaspoon of salt
    1 1/4 cup of water

Mix well—spoon or hand patty into your cooking oil-I usually use about an inch or so of oil and fry just under Hi—8 or 9

If you’re cooking for company as well just double the recipe
