I dunno about all that. I don't get the sense that Matthanuf06 posts maliciously. I think his "doom-and-gloom" is reasonably supported by the recent performance of the program. I regularly disagree with his opinion. But, I say: let him post them - Rule O be damned.
After a long while his doom and gloom takes on the form of an agenda. Some here are pessimists, others are indifferent— then there’s those who push a negative spin at every turn. “Malicious “ sounds a bit harsh, but it might be appropriate
We should always be looking to upgrade every position in the portal. Oklahoma recruited well for HS QBs but still took 3 portal transfer QBs that went in to be drafted and in the NFL. You can’t be loyal to a player you recruited if you want to win championships. Ohio State, LSU, … all took transfer QBs to enhance position
As a small correction- even Trevor Lawrence split time with the incumbent as a true freshman in the first 4-5 games. They handed TL the job mid-season to let the older incumbent transfer without burning his shirt. (And he went to Mizzou.) So even a prodigy such as TL didn't start day 1 of his true freshman year. I know I'm an outlier on the boards but I think there's something to be said for not rushing a kid. Patience, in other words.
We'll never know...but looking back on the roster that team was LOADED! I think we just sacked Troy Smith again...lol
It’s consensus opinion we will be 5 to 7 wins next year. I wasn’t even giving my opinion. Is it really frowned upon to mention things like odds and rankings if we aren’t good? I was perhaps the biggest CBN cheerleader on these boards prior to his hire and I was on the AR is a top 5 pick train 18 months ago. Either way I clearly said you can disagree with consensus, that’s your call, but that doesn’t change what the consensus is. And is it really against the rules to talk about the state of the program based on different scenarios? Seems pretty reasonable to talk about where we would stand if we had a consensus year this year. I personally think we outperform consensus but I’m not going to throw my head in the sand. It’s a literal fact we are expected to be below average in the SEC. What’s next, not allowing posting top 25 rankings if we aren’t in them? I’m seriously asking since you are implying we can’t talk about rankings and odds where we look poor
Some think I’m malicious because I think AR is an elite player but the establishment here thinks he’s not. Maliciousness has nothing to do what the opinion actually is, it’s defined as simply being different than you. I’m malicious because I point out AR is a top pick and we are projected to be a below average SEC team. Yet others are great posters who personally attack players on the team by constantly calling them quitters and not team players with zero evidence. I’m malicious for defending our players yet Skink can lobby personal attacks on Gator players with zero evidence. The person posting literal facts (AR top pick and our poor projections) is malicious but posting lies or restricting truth is not malicious Make it make sense please
How ridiculous - why would anyone call you malicious simply for propping up AR? This has nothing to with AR and you know it. Your posts are an incessant barrage of attacks on Billy Napier, and the team he is running. Stop playing the victim here — better yet, stop playing the troll
These posts are sensible. My view is you already made up your mind about this staff and continue to bash them. You also have a very negative outlook despite saying you think you are optimistic when compared to the consensus. I think you will see a drastic improvement in year two. Will that equate to wins when looking at our tough schedule? I don’t know, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we did what Tennessee did last year.
Dear Matthanu don't be upset. Skink has some good opinions but he hates everybody that disagrees with him. If Napier said I not sure of the QB position, Skink would call him a troll. I think most would agree we are a year away.
Because I check it every day. Not one of them wants to come to Fl and not be the starter. Time is running out on the portal. We need a starter for the upcoming season. Do you know someone? If so, I hope your right.
When did I attack Napier? Saying Vegas has us as a weaker SEC is not attacking Napier. Saying there will be noise in the system if we perform as many people here and nationally believe is also not attacking him. I can show you dozens of other posters talking about a 5 to 7 win season. I’m not saying it is justified but it’s just reality if you have two back to back mediocre years that the noise will be there. I’m not even sure how that is controversial to say, seems obvious.
Lagway has more mobility than Mertz and Miller combined. You are also assuming he won’t get any protection from a huge front line. Miller has almost ZERO experience and what he does have is inconsequential to cause a talent to sit on the bench behind him. Merrz does have experience but he also has minus 25 and minus 40 yards rushing at Wisconsin in his last two years. Lagway had 517 and 710 his last two years at Willis which is a Texas 6A school. I want Mertz to succeed this year. Turning around a 6-7 season should not be too hard. But unless we see a 10-3 type year maybe 9-4, the job is all but Lagway’s!
Man, if Lagway is up to the job as a true freshman I’m all for it. Imagine him as a sophomore with a whole season of experience already behind him. But for that to work he has to be really special. And our o-line has to play like Bama’s. That’s not expecting too much, right?
